POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Fire Protection Services Lead as a field technician for low voltage fire alarm and sprinkler systems at various facilities. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection, and testing of fire suppression and sprinkler systems to include testing of Backflow Prevention devices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Provide inspection, testing and maintenance for fire alarm and mass notification systems and fire suppression/sprinkler systems.
· Complete records of all repairs and inspections performed.
· Identify and reports any deviations of established fire/mass notification/Fire suppression/sprinkler requirements.
· Test communications, alarm equipment and backup systems to ensure serviceability.
· May be required to Work various shifts as assigned by supervisor including days, evenings, swing shift, graveyard, weekends, holidays.
· Respond to fire/mass notification or suppression/sprinkler system service calls and routine system maintenance calls.
· Inspects fire alarm; suppression/sprinkler systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
· Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
· Perform system modifications as necessary.
· Conduct testing and inspect systems.
· Respond and carry out to completion any troubleshooting and repairs.
· Must be able to identify code and non-conformance issues.
· Make recommendations regarding both systems installations and service contract work.
· Report daily on activities completed, deferred, requiring further action or material.
· Maintain compliance with established departmental policies and government regulations and directives.
· Provide customer service and care as required in a professional manner.
· Always maintain professional appearance and confidentiality.
· Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· High school diploma/GED required
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment and continuing random background, drug and MVR screenings.
· Must have good communication skills to interface with customers.
· Must be able to speak and write clearly in English, follow instructions, perform follow-up to ensure the customer is ready for inspection, follow code requirements, pay attention to details and work autonomously.
· Must be a team player, willing to help others and come to work with a positive attitude.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of minimum liability insurance.
· Must be able to accomplish electronic time posting error free.
· Fire suppression/sprinkler technical training and an electrical background. NICET Level I, II certification in Fire Alarm Systems strongly preferred. Kingfisher certified training and state of Virginia Backflow Preventer Certification a plus.
· Current US-issued driver’s license required.
· The candidate must possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a fire alarm installer or service technician.
· The candidate must be proficient and experienced in troubleshooting of fire alarm systems, wiring, and ground faults. Kingfisher, Monaco, Honeywell EBI and FS90/FS90, EST3 and Notifier certifications or experience is a plus.
· Prior experience working on government contracts or military bases preferred.
· Experience with fire suppression systems such as CO2 and wet/pre-action fire sprinkler systems preferred.
· Lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.
· LIMITED PHYSICAL ACCOMODIATIONS AVAILABLE. This role requires work in non-office settings such as machinery rooms, electrical distribution centers, server rooms and industrial locations. Work requires exposure to heat/cold, noise, dusts mist and/or fumes and requires the ability to climb ladders and work at heights. This position requires wearing personal protective equipment such as COVID-19 mask, safety glasses, fall protection harness, protective-toe footwear, gloves, hard hat and hearing protection.
