The Office of Accountability and Efficiency seeks a passionate financial data strategist to explore and model finance data to inform policy and practice, to leverage and deploy finite financial resources in alignment with district priorities, and to improve equity and student outcomes through strategic resource allocation.

The Financial Planning & Budget Analyst I fulfills requests for information, research, analysis, and visualization from various stakeholders on diverse finance matters; independently reviews the district’s most significant financial documents; contributes to the calculation of the district’s five-year forecast based on actuals, trends, economic indicators, and regional and local economies; and implements special accountability, efficiency, transparency, and process improvement projects.

Salary Range: $59,885 - 86,164 (12-month)

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management/Administration or closely related field.
• Two years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Business Analysis/Research or closely related field. Government finance experience is preferred.
• Two years of experience in analyzing financial reports and identifying trends and variances. Experience in advanced forecasting, financial modeling, and KPI analysis is preferred.
• Two years of experience analyzing financial processes, recommending improvements, and presenting results to management.
• Two years of experience using financial analysis solutions such as Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Excel, Excel Macros, Excel Power Query (M), Excel Power Pivot, SQL, VBA, DAX. Experience working with an enterprise software solution preferred.

• Analyzes district information including financial, enrollment, and operational data regarding Milwaukee Public Schools’ (MPS) financial accountability and performance
• Performs financial forecasting/modeling, reporting, and track key performance indicators (KPI)
• Compares and analyzes actual results with plans and forecasts
• Identifies existing and/or new trends to capitalize opportunities and/or avoid risks
• Interprets data, analyzes results using analytics, research methodologies, and statistical techniques
• Evaluates and recommends process improvements, including the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and dashboards
• Conducts return-on-investment and/or cost-benefit analysis in support of strategic decision making
• Applies visual presentation skills and business understanding to communicate findings and forecast updates
• Maintains a thorough understanding of federal, state, and city statutes regarding tax, debt, and funding formulas to accurately update forecast assumptions as needed
• Actively support the MPS strategic plan
• Completes other duties as assigned
