Job description
The Farmers Market Manager is responsible for the operations of the four City of Pittsburgh run Farmers Markets. This individual will be the point of contact for vendors and patrons and will work to ensure that markets run on time and that all parties have a positive market experience.

Qualifying Requirements:Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, retail management, or related experience. Experience managing or operating Farmers' Markets is preferred. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma or GED.
- EQUIVALENCY: None permitted.

You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Serves as the main point of contact to market vendors and communicates with them regarding vendor application status, vending locations, market logistics, collection of vendor fees, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise for vendors throughout the market season.

Serves as the point of contact for vendors for the duration of each market. Provides direction to the farmers market assistants that will be working as part of the team to staff the markets.

Troubleshoots issues that may come up in the day-to-day operations of the Farmers Markets and enforces the market rules and food safety standards.

Resolves any vendor/customer conflicts, issues, etc. in a professional manner.

Completes daily market information sheets, including estimated customer count, open and close time, market notes, weather factors, farmers/vendors no shows, any identified issues or conflicts, etc.

Ensures that markets start on time and assist in the set up and clean-up of each market.

Works with our partner Just Harvest, to ensure that the SNAP Benefits system is operating smoothly.

Communicates with CitiPark's leadership any needs that emerge for the markets including any larger issue that needs to be solved.

Builds strong working relationships with vendors and any community organizations that support the Farmers Markets.

Facilitates the quarterly farmers market advisory committee meetings.

Assists with the marketing effort to raise awareness of the City Farmers Markets.

Works with the CitiParks team to set up the logistics for any special events that may occur in conjunction with the Farmers Markets.

Develops an understanding of the community in which markets reside, such as how communities function, how markets can be tailored to better serve a specific community.

Conducts periodic surveys to assess customer opinions and satisfaction.

Organizes records, and complies reports with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Commits to the market and believes in the value of local and fresh food.

Performs other duties as requested or required.
