JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Facilities Supervisor reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations and is responsible for the supervision and management of skilled technical staff employees which include: maintenance electrical/carpentry/plumbing/HVAC/painting and vehicle maintenance operations. The successful candidate for this position will have a diverse and demonstrable background in facilities management, possessing knowledge of delivery methods for routine maintenance and renovations, interpretation of construction contract documents, construction methods and materials, project cost estimation, scheduling, management, safety, and security requirements, Contractual and regulatory compliance, budget management, evaluate proposals and bids for various design, contracting, and services as required, scheduling, health and safety enforcement, and attendance. It also requires the use of Penn State’s Computer Maintenance Management System. As a designated Essential Employee, this individual must also prepare for and respond to critical incidents to ensure continuity of operations.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Hire, supervise and train a diversified group of technical service skilled trades employees.
- Evaluate maintenance problems and priority of requests; organize and schedule work for assigned employees.
- Verify attendance, collect time sheets, processing work orders, scheduling work including overtime, reviewing invoices for payment, purchasing supplies including safety equipment.
- Administer Union-University agreement to include conducting disciplinary meetings and participating in grievance procedures.
- Investigate accidents; enforce safety protocols, perform inspections of completed work and worksites.
- Prepare and monitor budget; work within established budget and spending limits.
- Purchase materials, maintain, control inventories.
- Create an environment that promotes and recognizes the value of diversity in the workplace, support diversity through hiring, retention, and promotional activities.
Education and experience:
Typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of related trades supervisory experience in a union environment (or the equivalent combination of education and experience). This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
Work Schedule: 6:00am-2:30pm Monday through Friday
