Facilities Management is dedicated to supporting the education mission of the School by providing a safe, beautiful, and functional campus environment that meets the varied needs of students, faculty, staff, and guests. The Department’s primary responsibilities are to maintain the buildings, grounds, and physical plant of the campus; to design and build new facilities and to lead campus planning and space management efforts. Facilities Management accomplishes this work through five service units: Design and Construction, Maintenance Services, Grounds/Landscaping Services, Housekeeping Services, and Environmental Safety.

Primary Description of Work
This posting is for 2 – positions: SHRA position #080314 and position #080365
The Facility Maintenance Technician – Mechanical Trades concept provides career tracks included but not limited to Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding that perform a variety of tasks ranging from routine and unskilled to highly skilled. Positions apply methods and general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to trade. Some positions primarily perform trades work in a specialty area while others will perform tasks requiring specialized skills in multiple trades. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components requiring the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety. Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.

Work Schedule and hours
Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
The PM Technician will be responsible for various contributing level preventative maintenance tasks on HVAC, electrical and plumbing equipment. This will include, but not be limited, to changing air filters, changing belts & pulleys, greasing equipment, cleaning coils and assisting other mechanical technicians in their respective trade area. Employee is required to operate a variety of tools including, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.

All employees in this class are considered essential personnel and are subject to call back. Employees expected to work in severe weather events and campus emergencies.

Process daily/weekly electronic work orders accurately and to completion. Submitting hours worked bi-weekly through electronic time sheets into management/supervisor. Regularly accessing email and responding as necessary. Yearly report for inventory of tool and materials.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Requirement: A current valid driver’s license. A motor vehicle screening will be completed in addition to the standard criminal background check of the selected candidate.

Preferred Qualifications
HVAC Certificate or Certification.
3 years of progressive experience in preventative maintenance of commercial HVAC equipment.
EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.

Working knowledge of the standard practices and methods in the HVAC trade.

Working knowledge of tools and materials used in the maintenance, repair, and operation of HVAC systems.

Skill in the use of standard refrigeration tools, electrical meters, and other specialized HVAC instruments.

Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and/or sketches.

Ability to make accurate mathematical calculations.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy tasks for considerable periods of time.

Basic computer skills.
