External Affairs Manager (2202131) – Research Triangle Park, NC
Where the Chemistry Happens
The External Affairs Manager will drive programs to promote, protect and defend the BASF Agricultural Solutions reputation and brand(s) among key stakeholders in North America, among them journalists, industry influencers, community organizations, NGOs, customers and growers. The external affairs manager will lead efforts around media relations, crisis/issues management, social media, public and community relations. The position will also lead efforts to position BASF as a leading employer, community partner and responsible corporate citizen in key markets where BASF operates, with particular emphasis in the Raleigh-Durham NC market.
Formula for Success

Utilize your Bachelor degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field.

Minimum 10 years of experience in corporate communications field, in-house or agency setting preferably with supervisory experience and budget management.

Demonstrated experience as a lead spokesperson for a corporation or agency, particularly with difficult topics, crisis/issues management
-
Experience in agriculture, chemistry and/or manufacturing preferred.
-
Experience managing outside agencies and/or vendors.
-
Experience in a global setting preferred.

Ability to understand public opinion, the news cycle, social media and community engagement to craft proactive and reactive external communications programs that positively impact BASF reputation and brand awareness with key constituencies in key markets.

Solid understanding of sustainability principles.

Demonstrated adept public speaking abilities, particularly in high-pressure environments.

Demonstrated ability to craft and execute communications strategies and tactics that produce relevant results. Knowledge of industry measurements and KPIs.

Demonstrated ability to manage budgets.

High level of understanding and experience with social media channels and engagement.

High level of understanding of community relations and engagement principles.

High level of understanding of the regulatory, legislative and political processes and standards relevant to the BASF businesses and products.

High level of understanding of marketing communications principles, including brand management, consumer and B2B marketing principles, and the public relations integration to support customer-oriented communications.

Strong knowledge of AP Style and North American journalistic standards for news writing and editing.
