Summary

This position will support the work of two workforce development programs housed at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. The Region V Public Health Training Center (RVPHTC) is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The RVPHTC’s purpose is to strengthen the current and future public health workforce through continuing education, student development, and other capacity building activities done in collaboration with community-based partners and technical assistance providers. Public Health Prepared, a program of the Michigan Center for Infectious Disease Threats & Pandemic Preparedness (MCIDT), is funded by the University of Michigan. Public Health Prepared (PHP) contributes to the MCIDT’s mission of serving as a convening and coordinating force for the field by engaging cross-sectoral partners to translate research into practice for infectious disease control and prevention, focusing on building capacity of the public health workforce, broadly defined, to address emerging infectious disease threats in Michigan and beyond.

The Evaluation Coordinator will work closely with the teams of both centers to evaluate program activities, recommend and implement quality improvement efforts, conduct training needs assessments, and disseminate findings. The Evaluation Coordinator will also contribute to the design of training content related to analytical and assessment skills.

Responsibilities*

Program Evaluation

  • Conduct evaluation activities under the guidance of program leadership and in collaboration with partners, including: developing evaluation plans, designing data collection protocols and instruments (for surveys, focus groups, and interviews), data cleaning, data analysis, and reporting of findings

  • Maintain and query course and trainee databases and learning management system data

  • Contribute significantly to performance reporting to funders and lead creation of trainee data reports submitted to continuing education accrediting bodies

  • Participate in relevant Public Health Training Center Network activities, such as an evaluator workgroup

Quality Improvement

  • Work with team members to identify and implement quality improvement projects based on process and outcome program evaluation findings

Training Needs Assessment

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative training needs assessments

  • Analyze and report findings, including recommendations for responsive training activities

Scholarly Activity and Dissemination

  • Collaborate with team to present program findings at meetings and conferences

  • Contribute to manuscripts for publication

Workforce Development Programming and Partner Engagement

  • Communicate evaluation and training needs assessment methods and findings to partners at advisory board and other meetings.

  • Contribute to the development of training and tutorials for students and professionals related to program evaluation, quality improvement, and needs assessment

Other duties as assigned. May also coordinate projects for student workers.

Required Qualifications*

  • For the Intermediate level, Master’s degree in public health or related field and 4-5 years of relevant experience. For the Associate level, Bachelor degree in public health or related field and 1-3 years of relevant experience; master’s degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, data management, and program evaluation design

  • Experience with database management and querying

  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis and interpretation for action

  • Effective communication to varied audiences

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete assignments independently with excellent attention to detail and under general supervision. Also able to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Work Locations

The ideal candidate will be located in Michigan or another Region V state (MI, OH, IN, IL, WI, MN). This position may work in-person, hybrid, or fully remote. Occasional travel to the campus at Ann Arbor, Michigan as well as to state, regional, and national conferences is expected.
