We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead teams building customer-facing systems that improve customer experience and reduce friction. You will drive the technical vision & implementation of mobile and web applications delivering first-time experiences for our consumers and dealers. You will lead Senior Engineers and team leaders across full stack implementations. You will coach and mentor to cultivate our next generation of leaders. You will foster a sense of craftsmanship in your team’s work. You will partner with other engineering groups and collaborate with product teams and marketing to design, build and extend new systems and integrations that represent the public face of Credit Acceptance.
Outcomes and Activities:
  • This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member.
  • Manage a team of direct and indirect staff with varied skillsets and backgrounds
  • Support, maintain, and enhance our web and mobile properties by predicting, preventing, and identifying issues through clear metrics, monitoring, and alerting
  • Lead seniors and Managers who own applications in varied domains, including internal and external web properties and mobile applications
  • Engage in discussions with leaders within and outside of Engineering regarding new requirements, system features and limitations, and development timelines and costs
  • Work with your leaders to propose and review architecture changes, estimates and timelines, and operational concerns such as alerting, metrics and data reconciliation
  • Manage and plan capacity allocations as well as team size and structure
  • Ensure clear information is collected for assignments.
  • Accurately categorize work to ensure it is directed appropriately.
  • Support prioritization processes led by the Project Management Office (PMO) or App Owner and provide input.
  • Engage in planning processes led by the PMO or App Owner. Provide effective estimates, manage workload, and keep leader aware of capacity to support new or existing work.
  • Minimize the need for customization by understanding business requirements and applying application domain expertise to solve problems.
  • Efficiently gather requirements, develop, test and deliver a quality product.
  • Perform assigned recurring tasks in a timely manner in order to maintain application health.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce recurring work where practical (and/or improve performance, reduce risk, etc.).
  • Perform requirements/solution design for initiatives involving multiple team applications as well as applications owned by other teams.
  • Remove roadblocks and escalate where appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, customers and leaders.
  • Remain compliant with our policies, processes and legal guidelines.
  • Rigorously assess and action the dimensions of Org. Health for which you have direct control in order to effectively coach your team and drive improved performance
  • Ensure your team consists of the Right People
  • Set and enforce Clear Expectations for your team
  • Monitor and evaluate team performance and continuously coach team members via the Performance Management process
  • Identify Training opportunities and act as the primary trainer on core Policies and Processes
  • Create a Right Environment as measured by departmental PULSE and GPTW survey scores
  • Set your team up for operational success by:
    • Getting close to the work and the people thru a mix of doing the work yourself and observing your team members doing the work
    • Deploying team members to handle the daily ebbs and flows of the work
    • Enforcing the proper application of department processes and policies

Competencies: The following items detail how you will be successful in this role.
  • Impact Analysis: Understand the rationale behind and how changes impact the enterprise and/or applications and across the technical ecosystem.
  • Solution Design: Ability to translate high level requirements to create and implement designs that meet the needs of the customer, are technically sound, maintainable and cost effective. Ability to identify missing or ambiguous requirements. Ability to design at both high and low levels of abstraction, understand complex requirements and translate into understandable solutions. Ability to accurately estimate based on requirements.
  • Technical Domain: Have an understanding of the technical domain, including the application architecture, design and data of the application they support and systems to which Engineering interfaces.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in leading project teams.
  • Minimum of 3 years providing leadership and capacity management for full-stack web development teams in an environment including frameworks like Angular, Java, and a CMS platform
  • Experience with Cloud SSO across web and mobile platforms using vendors such as Azure B2C
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Experience with and willingness to encourage and defend the work-life balance of your team
  • Proven experience as an effective mentor.
  • Practical expertise in Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Acts as functional expert; stays current on best practices and applies them effectively.
  • Responds promptly and effectively to resolve incidents, tasks, and projects.
  • Shows initiative by working hard and smart.
  • Solves problems at the source by offering simple, working solutions.
  • Communicates changes clearly, concisely, and objectively (verbally & in writing).
  • Anticipates the impact of a change or project across multiple systems.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Champions the current process and recommends data and process improvements.

Preferred Experience:
  • Portal, Mobile, Angular and Spring Boot experience preferred
  • Experience with Dynatrace, Google Analytics, Adobe Web Analytics, or other metrics and monitoring tools
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms in a mixed on-prem/cloud environment
  • Be able to research and resolve a wide range of issues
  • Demonstrate a motivation and capability to teach others
  • Ability to gain trust of others and builds solid relationships across and vertically throughout the organization and relate well to all business users
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with all levels
  • Be self-motivated and directed.

Targeted Compensation: $130,000 - $175,000 + an annual bonus
This position is not currently open to individuals who require sponsorship now or in the future to work legally for Credit Acceptance, such as H-1b/ H-4 or F-1 OPT visa holders.
