New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an innovative and interdisciplinary child welfare and social services agency that provides essential support to families with at least one family member who has a disability and/or chronic medical condition. Children and their families enter into NAC’s services through the city’s foster care system, preventive services, or by way of community referral. All of our clients have access to a wide array of services including intensive, multi-faceted support for children’s educational needs.

As such, NAC is looking for a creative problem solver to join a fun, hardworking team as an Supervisor who will support NAC staff to optimally serve NAC families in their participation in wide-ranging school/schooling related matters and in community-support opportunities. This Supervisor rolewill be a key partner in shaping the vision of the department and acting as a liaison to all other departments at NAC. The Supervisor positionis an expansive position at the organization and one in which the supervisor will be called upon to represent NAC in external settings, as well.

Department Specific Responsibilities:

  • Regular collaboration and consultation with the Director and Assistant Director in the development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct supervision of select staff and the preparation of timely evaluations of supervisees.
  • Regular assessment of educational needs across all NAC programs and departments.
  • Coordination and supervision of programs, groups, and events developed and offered by the staff of the Department.
  • Assistance in the recruitment of Department interns and occasional support in the supervision of interns.
  • Casework coverage as needed.
  • Coverage of supervisees work, as needed.
  • Oversight of supervisee data maintenance and adherence of data deadlines.
  • Oversight of billable hour requirements for supervisees.
  • Assistance in the hiring process for Department vacancies.

Organization-wide Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of and assistance with inter-department collaboration.
  • Participation in various Organization committees/sub-committees both as a representative of the Education Department and as an individual employed at NAC.
  • When necessary, attend Foster Care and Prevention Case Reviews, Family Team Conferences, Treatment Team Meetings, Adoption Disclosure Conferences, Elevated Risk Conferences, etc.
  • Serve as a collaborator with NAC’s Quality Improvement team.
  • Assistance with the compilation and presentation of Department data in support of the Development department
  • Agency-wide communication relevant information related to the Department, school deadlines, and the referral process for Department support.

External Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with school staff and city agency officials and offices to ensure school/program compliance with federal, state and city laws and regulations.
  • Development of a range of written materials along with editorial support of Department literature, social media content, and other external correspondence.
  • Participation in coalitions, collaborations, and workgroups with outside partnerships.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • 3 to 5 years working with children and/or families
  • Knowledge of the NYC School System and special education law a plus
  • Supervisory experience preferable
  • Teaching experience preferable
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Willingness to travel throughout NYC, as needed
  • Proficiency in Spanish is desirable.
