Coordinates with: Fellow Clinicians, Program Assistants, the local SCA and other funding sources, medical personnel, law enforcement, sponsors, and other community resources.

Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

General Job Description:

This job description is designed to identify the key areas of contribution as related to the confidential therapy and treatment of individuals with substance use / abuse disorders.

Scope:

This job description encompasses the clinical functions that pertain to the overall therapy, treatment, and documentation of services in a manner that will support and empower individuals to embrace the treatment process and live a drug- and alcohol-free life.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Clinical Director, this position’s primary responsibility will be to provide treatment services and complete documentation in a manner that meets or exceeds standards established by the agency, DDAP, payers, and CARF, and that the sessions and documentation satisfy reporting requirements and that authorizations are current, so that services rendered are billable. There will also be a focus on the quality of treatment as determined by surveys and feedback from individuals that have received therapy.

Responsibilities by Function

Training and Development

  • Maintain licenses and credentials
  • Attend trainings and workshops (with supervisory approval) as necessary to satisfy DDAP and state requirements
  • Consult with the Executive Director/Clinical Director when clinical concerns interface with an individual’s inability to pay for services or when billing issues arise

Treatment

  • Meet and work together with individuals to evaluate their health and substance use problems, identify issues, review medical history, discuss previous treatment history, explain and complete authorizations to release information, create an individualized problem list, and cooperatively set treatment goals and treatment plans
  • Conduct individual appointments and lead group therapy sessions
  • Complete various reports in specified timeframes such as Psych-Social Reports, Case Consults, Preliminary Treatment Plans, Comprehensive Treatment Plans, Treatment Updates, DAP notes, Group Notes, ASAMs, Case Determinations, Liability Forms, After Care Plans, Discharge Summaries, and DDAP documentation for Client Profiles, Client Admissions, and Client Discharges
  • Perform random urine drug tests on individuals to support treatment goals
  • Provide updates and progress reports to courts, law enforcement, and medical offices
  • Document sessions, phone calls, and drug test results
  • Meet with individuals in treatment and garner feedback in order to cooperatively prepare aftercare plans to encourage and support clean and sober living
  • Verify funding sources, and update authorizations to ensure services are billable
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with payers, referral sources, sponsors, other agencies, and other community resources

Qualifications and Key Competencies

  • Understand the disease concept of chemical dependency
  • Possess strong clinical skills and a strong knowledge base of substance use disorders
  • Able to screen, identify, and diagnose using DSM nomenclature
  • Demonstrate strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to high professional ethical standards
  • Able to facilitate groups and speak effectively in public
  • Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills

  • Maintain a current CPR / First Aid certification
  • Quick Typing Skills and ability to utilize an Electronic Health Record for documentation.
  • Adept in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Adhere to Federal, State, drug and alcohol, and HIPAA confidentiality laws. Able to relate effectively with people regardless of race, religion, educational level, income level, national origin, or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and/or intersex, or other minority sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression (LGBTQI) communities

Education and Experience

Meet at least one of the following groups of qualifications:

  • Current licensure in this Commonwealth as a physician
  • Master’s Degree or above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field which includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If the practicum did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 1 year of clinical experience (a minimum of 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues
  • Associate Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 2 years of clinical experience (a minimum of 3,640 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person’s experience was not in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues
  • Current licensure in this Commonwealth as a registered nurse and a degree from an accredited school of nursing and 1 year of counseling experience (a minimum of 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person’s experience was not in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues
  • Full certification as an addictions counselor by a statewide certification body which is a member of a National certification body or certification by another state government’s substance abuse counseling certification board is preferred or able to be obtained within 1 year from date of hire.
  • Working knowledge of Evidence Based Treatment Modalities.

Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week

Starting wage will be based on experience and education.'
