Purpose of Position

The Dispatcher position is responsible to manage drivers to ensure timely, accurate and efficient service to GWI customers. Requires strong problem-solving skills, leadership, mentoring abilities, Multi-tasking and superior communications ability. Also, must have knowledge of Hours of Service (ELD) to manage the metrics related to monitoring driver logs and hours to optimize capacity for the fleet. This position will report to the Assistant Operations Manager.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Instruct Independent Contractors and Hourly Drivers with pick-up and delivery instructions.
  • Assist Operation Manager to ensure that work/chassis is distributed evenly among Independent Contractors.
  • Identify all containers on yard checks for Gulf Winds location.
  • Yard report & Chassis report to be given to Ops Manager.
  • Track all Gulf Winds equipment to ensure proper utilization and prevent losses.
  • Chassis Report to be given to Dispatch Manager and Transportation Manager.
  • Cross-trained to cover workload distribution in the event the Dispatch Manager is out.
  • Make sure containers are returned in a timely manner and to the correct depot.
  • Notify CSR if there is going to be any additional billing.
  • Communicate problems and any Customer complaints immediately to Dispatch Manager and Senior Management.

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organizational skills.
  • Must possess an amiable personality with the communication & writing skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong Communication Skill
  • Account knowledge
  • Problem Resolution Skills
  • Computer skills (Internet and Prism Software preferred)
  • Working knowledge of steamship lines and container yards
  • Proficiency in Spanish recommended but not required
  • Must be computer literate with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Logistics and Intermodal experience preferred
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have 1-3 years of Dispatch experience
  • Must be dependable and able to work independently

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
