ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Hunt Operations reports to the President of Ted Turner Reserves (TTR) and oversees the hunting programs on Turner properties. This position ensures that the Turner Ranch Outfitting (TRO) brand is well-aligned with TRO’s mission to connect people with nature by hunting for the purpose of feeding humanity healthy and organic protein while supporting conservation that cares for the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
The Director of Hunt Operations oversees the Sales, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Revenue Management, and staffing for TRO. This person must be passionate about the health of the earth and constantly aware of our impact on it. They will continue to define and grow the TRO brand and push it forward in the marketplace as a leader in world class sustainable and ethical hunting practices, hospitality, and the Nature Based Tourism market. The employee must have a deep knowledge of, and passion for, the hunting industry and must be connected to others who share the belief that hunting for the purpose of supporting conservation land management and feeding our families clean, nutrient dense protein are great reasons to continue the hunting tradition. This position is responsible for the leadership and revenue generation/optimization of the hunting products sold through the Central Reservations office (CRO).
As a Director of Hunt Operations, the job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ensure all sales and marketing efforts are consistent with vision, mission, and values of the TRO and TTR organizations.
- This position will have considerable travel time to multiple Turner properties and require relationship development within each property to align and support the operational goals and objectives of the land and guest service managers.
- On Turner properties where hunting operations are executed through a contracted vendor, this position works to assist the property managers to outsource and maintain recreational leasing as needed and provide oversight on detailed and successful contracts that represents the Company and the unique needs of each property in its region.
- Oversee and coordinate wildlife harvest levels and user days on available seasons, monitor and track ranch activity, and handle lease requests with ranch management, company Biologists and state Game and Fish agencies.
- Provide annual follow up for contract adjustments, reports, and renewal.
- Develop extensive networking relationships within the professional hunting community as the Company shares clientele with outfitters in many states and countries.
- Act as a member of the Turner Wildlife Committee. Review and propose all potential commercial hunting opportunities for the properties in accordance with the Company’s contracted partners and harvest quotas.
- Serve as an Advisor to the Turner Wildlife Committee, the company’s executive leadership, Turner family members and state Wildlife Managers.
- Define and deploy strategies for sales, reservations, revenue management, marketing, and PR disciplines, ensuring growth in both topline resort revenues and total organization profitability, brand cohesiveness and high-level guest care/satisfaction; set performance goals accordingly.
- Oversee the development of annual topline revenue budgets for the TRO portfolio through revenue management collaboration with executive management team, Natural Resources and Wildlife Divisions and resort leadership.
- Govern the development and execution of innovative strategic sales and marketing plans and forecast to achieve corporate objectives for TRO portfolio.
- Learn, understand, support, and execute the TTR Hospitality Standard levels of service where TTR hospitality operations exist.
- Sell, schedule, market, book, and capture/track receivables for all commercial hunts offered under the TRO brand.
- Attend a minimum of three hunt shows per year for hunt marketing purposes as determined by leadership.
- Guide hunts as needed and ensure that adequate staffing is achieved during hunting season.
- Attend weekly sales and marketing RevMax meetings.
- Oversee the hiring, supervision and training of all Hunt Guides and Dog Trainers. Ensure that all staff are properly licensed, perform to the established guest service standards and operate within all applicable state and federal laws.
- Oversee harvest reports and biological samples that are collected by all Guides and Outfitters in accordance with the direction of the properties Natural Resource departments.
- Serve as a liaison with Outfitters who contract to conduct hunts on Turner properties.
- Ensure that all licensing and reporting per state regulations is complete and timely.
- Work with Company Biologists to maintain positive working relationships with their individual State Game and Fish and Parks and Wildlife divisions.
- Serve as the lead of Main House guiding crew for Turner family hunt activity as well as oversee and support the hunting dog program.
- Serves as a member on the Wildlife Advisory Committee.
- Act as a strategic thought partner for Company and resort leaders; create compelling business cases to promote growth from the sales, marketing, and communications efforts.
- Identify market needs and engage with executive management teams to evaluate future opportunities.
- Monitor competitor’s sales, marketing, and revenue management activities to inform and uncover opportunities for the TRO portfolio of reserves and brands.
- Handle the development and execution of TRO Sales & Marketing Plan consisting of strategic efforts and marketing campaigns promoting on-brand messaging to customers through direct sales and traditional, digital, and social media marketing channels.
- All other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has supervisory responsibilities. Direct report relationships include the Hunt Manager at Vermejo and the Wild Gamebird staff.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
10+ years of experience in the hunting industry.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
The employee must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The employee must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Fluency in English is required. Second language preferred, but not required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The employee must be able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. The employee must be able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
The employee must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The employee must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. The employee must be able to think quickly and adapt to changing situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
The employee must possess a valid Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment. The employee’s driving record must meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company's insurance carrier.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- The employee must adhere to Company and property policies and procedures which are included in the Company’s Employee Handbook.
- The employee must present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire, pursuant to federal law.
- The candidate may be subject to undergo pre-employment drug test, (after offer is given but before applicant has commenced work). Random drug tests are given throughout the year.
