OVERVIEW

DCCCA seeks a Director of Finance. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the successful candidate can manage multiple projects and priorities independently and produce timely results that are high quality and accurate. They will join a loyal and stable department, motivated by DCCCA’s mission of providing social and community services that improve the safety, health, and well-being of those we serve. This is a salaried position, full-time, on-site, and responsible for directing a team of 4 employees. After a thorough training period, hybrid work-from-home may be possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality. Evaluates the finance/accounting structure to seek continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth, emphasizing on opportunities for individuals when possible.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Team to achieve the agency’s strategic goals.
  • Participates in key decisions as a member of the operations team; maintains in-depth relations with all members of the management team; and serves on planning and policy-making committees
  • Attends board and board committee meetings as requested
  • Trains the finance/accounting department staff, program management and staff, on raising awareness and knowledge of fiscal management matters
  • Works with other directors and the executive management team members to monitor financial performance, develop strategies for addressing challenges, and working collaborative to obtain results
  • Oversees the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including financial systems, transaction processes, financial statements, analysis and documentation, development and monitoring of contract/grant budgets, project/program and grants accounting and reports to funding agencies; ensures that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; and oversees all payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed assets activity
  • Assists with employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package; serves as one of the trustees and oversees administration and financial reporting of the organization's 403(b) plan
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with banks and other financial and lending institutions; monitors investments; ensures adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs; and monitors cash balances and cash forecasts
  • Reports interim financial results by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist the CEO, DCCCA management, and the board of directors in performing their responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization and oversees federal awards and programs
  • Oversees the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all Uniform Guidance audit issues are resolved, and all 403(b) compliance issues are met, including the preparation of the annual financial statements and supplementary schedules and information in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state, or other required regulatory body requirements
  • Coordinates proper filing of all tax returns
  • Participates in the development of DCCCA’s plans and programs. Evaluates and advises on the fiscal impact of long-range planning. Develops and monitors performance measures, financial and/or tax strategies that support the company's strategic direction, future direction, and initiatives for innovative programs/strategies. Participates in contract, grant and merger and acquisition due diligence and implementation
  • Participates in developing new business; assists the CEO and DCCCA management staff with drafting of prospective programmatic budgets; and determines cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery
  • Develops and participates in the capital and operating budgeting processes; and assists with improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets
  • Suggests desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions
  • Understands and mitigates key elements of the company's risk profile, and reports risk issues to management or the board of directors
  • Ensures that the company complies with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Constructs and monitors reliable control systems; ensures that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Maintains relations with external auditors and investigates their findings and recommendations
  • Remains up to date on nonprofit audit and accounting best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations; implements financial and operational best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant, required.
  • Bachelor's degree, required. Master’s degree, preferred.
  • Five years of senior management experience, required.
  • Detailed understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, not-for-profit accounting, and federal grant requirements.
  • Proficiency in and understanding of accounting systems.
  • Experience preparing, auditing, analyzing, or evaluating financial statements that present the breadth and level of accounting complexity expected to be raised by the agency’s financial statements and experience in actively supervising one or more persons engaged in such activities.
  • Class C driver’s license with maintained clear driving record, reliable personal transportation, and current automobile insurance, required. Approval by DCCCA’s auto insurance provider to drive vehicles on DCCCA business, required.

This position offices in lovely Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence is 41 miles west of Kansas City, Missouri, and 25 miles east of Topeka, Kansas. COMPENSATION

The compensation range for this position will be competitive and in accordance with the background and experience of the selected candidate. The total rewards package includes a 403(b) program, major medical, life, technology allowance, etc.
