High Point University located in North Carolina is seeking a high-energy, creative candidate to join the HPU staff as the assistant director of athletic communications. This position will be the primary media contact for women’s basketball and other assigned sports. Reports directly to the Senior Director of Communications/Creative Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a field such as journalism or communications or equivalent experience required
Experience and Training
- Minimum one-year experience in college sports information or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Strong writing, editing and design (print and web) skills
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Premier, Audition, etc.)
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Proficiency in NCAA Genius Live Stats and StatCrew
- Proficiency in Sidearm website technology
- Working knowledge of web site management and multimedia production
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, parents, fans and alumni
- Ability to work independently as well as lead projects
- Ability to work flexible schedule including late night, weekend hours and travel
- Understanding and appreciation of the mission of college athletics
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages all athletic communications department operations for women’s basketball and other assigned sport(s)
- Serves as the main point of contact with the media for women’s basketball and other assigned sports; serves as on-campus host for media; coordinates media interviews
- Customizing social media graphics for assigned sports, utilized pre-game, in-game and post-game
- Tabulates official statistics for assigned sport(s), using personal judgment about content; comfortable with the use of NCAA Genius when available
- Builds relationships with and pitches stories to local, regional and national media contacts
- Attends athletic events of assigned sport(s) (home and away) as required
- Supervises student workers at assigned sports’ home contests; directs part-time staff (announcers, scoreboard operators, photographers, etc.) during games when it pertains to athletic communications materials and scripts
- Maintains historical records and statistics for assigned sport(s)
- Will work with Director of Creative Services to create digital, multimedia and video board content
- Manages award nomination/selection processes for assigned sport(s)
- Creates all content, edits, designs layout and produces records books, other publications for assigned sport(s)
- Designs and edits content for assigned sport(s) on
highpointpanthers.com, including news and feature stories, photos, rosters, schedules and multimedia content
- Assists in maintaining official HPU Athletics accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube along with sport specific social pages
- Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers
