This role will be responsible for origination and execution of partnerships and strategic agreements to ensure energy infrastructure investment and development to support the global growth of Microsoft’s datacenters.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate success in origination, structuring, business development and strategic partnerships, as well as a natural ability to rapidly network within a global company like Microsoft, and identify the appropriate resources needed to fulfil a specific opportunity. You will understand the key drivers and stakeholders within the energy industry, and the decision-making processes they follow on objectives. You will quickly develop a reasonable understanding of the investment and business cases that support Microsoft’s continued datacenter growth.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders globally to the understand challenges to energy infrastructure investment and development to support datacenter growth that are unique to each jurisdiction and market.
  • Identify, evaluate, assess risk of, negotiate, and close high-impact partnerships and projects to invest and develop the long-term underlying energy infrastructure needed for datacenter development
  • Develop business pipeline by deploying deep knowledge and experience in the energy industry
  • Collaborate and drive consensus within cross functional teams including regional program managers, finance, legal, regulatory policy, technology, and procurement
  • Develop and communicate business strategy and plans to develop new opportunities for infrastructure investment and development

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Liberal Arts, Sciences, Economics, Law, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years relevant work experience (e.g., strategic partnerships, infrastructure investment, renewable development, corporate development, or mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, consulting, finance, marketing, corporate strategy, sales, venture capital, legal, business development, product management, project management, software development, or related field)
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements
:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications
  • Experience developing and executing upon large, complex, unconventional commercial business structures and transactions
  • Transactional experience, sourcing, structuring and closing strategic partnerships including: joint ventures, project financing, power purchase agreements, supply chain and development agreements with offtakers, commercial and development partners
  • Well versed in managing a business development pipeline including screening and assessment of investment opportunities, focusing on key administrative, technical, commercial and development features
  • Experience building relationships and working with energy utilities, investors, developers, energy companies, industrials, and regulatory agencies
  • Experience with energy markets, renewables, carbon metrics, energy technologies
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects with minimal direction
  • Growth mindset with advanced problem-solving skills to see the opportunity in developing innovative partnerships and business solutions for decarbonization
  • Excellent executive communication, adept at leveraging open communication and extensive stakeholder engagement to influence decisions and meet near and long term goals
  • Understanding of datacenter industry or other large industrial customers
  • Experience in electricity transmission or resource planning

Business Development IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $242,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $264,000 per year.
