The Director of Communications leverages communications expertise, business acumen and interpersonal skills to design and deliver communication programs that are integrated with the business strategies and objectives for UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual (E&I). This position will lead key projects to advance E&I business priorities through communications campaigns that include our annual open enrollment campaign, thought leadership, trimester marketing programs and message platform/narrative development. This position is part of the E&I communications team and reports to the vice president of communications for UnitedHealthcare E&I.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage relationships and effectively interact with a range of stakeholders, including senior executives, to create and execute external communications plans that advance business priorities
- Engage and partner with UnitedHealthcare National Accounts throughout the year to create content and/or campaigns that announce and/or increase awareness of our E&I products and offerings
- Lead the PR campaigns for the joint UHC & Health Action Council white papers, creating and implementing PR strategy and executive media interviews
- Work with our Special Needs Initiative and C3 programs to increase awareness of those programs and member success stories
- Create, implement, and lead the E&I open enrollment campaign to enhance the company brand and drive growth during the fall open enrollment season (Sept-November) by communicating how our company delivers a more affordable, simpler, and better health care experience for its members – a message that can help guide consumer choice
- Partner with National Accounts to identify key markets and clients… and translate to targeted PR efforts
- Partner and coordinate with colleagues across the enterprise, including National Accounts, the UHC Newsroom and social media team, UHC Regional Communicators, M&R Communications, and UHC brand, marketing teams, and agencies
- Manage the budget and external vendors related to open enrollment
- Help increase awareness of UHC’s Small Business Offerings
- Work with UHC Student Resources business to drive sales and position UHC as a leader in the student health insurance space
- Serve as the communications representative on the cross-functional trimester marketing work including both internal and external components (newsroom, social, Hub, etc.) that drive key messaging through targeted integrated campaigns
- Participate actively in shared services and broader UHC and UHG Corporate Communications department meetings
- Serve as thought leader in aligning communications strategy with corporate mission and goals
- Build relationships with key stakeholders as needed, and support internal peers’ relationships with their respective stakeholders
- Embody and promote UHG corporate values and ethics, and demonstrate exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 8+ years of communications experience within a matrix organization
- 8+ years of experience with the full suite of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- 8+ years of project management experience
- 8+ years of professional writing and editing experience
- 5+ years social media experience (i.e., blogs, pod casting, etc.)
- External and internal communication experience
- Experience working with and consulting senior executives
- Integrated communications experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Combination of Corporate and Agency communications experience

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100.
