Kent School - Part-Time Director of Library Services
Kent School, an independent day school located on the bank of the Chester River in historic Chestertown, Maryland serving girls and boys in Preschool through Grade 8, seeks a part-time Director of Library Services for the 2023 - 2024 academic year. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the School’s mission. This position reports to the Assistant Head of School for Academics and is a ten-month, 20 hour/week position beginning late August 2023.The successful candidate will be a creative teacher who engages and inspires students and who thrives in a collaborative atmosphere. We seek an individual who is committed to developing a multicultural curriculum and who purposefully integrates technology as it facilitates learning.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide a welcoming and aesthetically inviting Library environment for students, which is conducive to learning and promotes a joy of reading.
- Manage school-wide library operations, including budget, program, collection development, circulation, and physical space.
- Organize the annual Book Fair.
- Plan, direct, implement, and evaluate all aspects of library services.
- Teach Lower School Library classes and information literacy skills to students when appropriate.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop media literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship curriculum.
- Integrate technology and ethical online behavior into instruction.
- Purchase, organize, evaluate, and maintain media that meets the informational, educational, research, and recreational needs of the students and use the knowledge of the collection to assist students with digital and print selections and promote reading, viewing, and listening.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in Library Science (MLS) or Library & Information Science (MLIS) and will possess 3-5 years’ experience in all aspects of library operations.
