The New York Film Academy Los Angeles is seeking a part-time instructor to teach Directing for long-term (1 Year, AFA, BFA and MFA) and short-term (1-Week, 4-Week and 8-Week) Filmmaking students.


The New York Film Academy was designed for a new generation of filmmakers who share a passion for motion pictures and want to learn by making their own projects in a hands-on, intensive program. The Filmmaking Programs were designed to educate talented and committed prospective filmmakers in a professional and supportive environment. The intensive curriculum will challenge, inspire and prepare candidates for professional work in the motion picture industry.


Directing is the core discipline in the New York Film Academy Filmmaking program. The Instructor will run directing classes each semester in which he/she will teach the language and craft of film aesthetics from a director's perspective. The goal is not only to transform students into competent directors but also into compelling storytellers by utilizing the advanced expressive visual tools to tell their stories.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare syllabus in accordance with accreditation requirements.

  • Deliver course in an inspired and disciplined method to a creative student body.

  • Conduct critiques of student work in a productive and effective manner.

  • Communicate effectively with support and logistical staff.

  • Serve as advisors or on Thesis Committees and evaluate undergraduate or graduate student Thesis work

  • Provide one-on-one consultations with students, if and when necessary

  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on departmental curricular committees

  • Adhere to institution-wide policies & procedures and follow the correct protocol with respect to disciplining students


The ideal candidate will have mastery in the following areas:

  • Components of Designing a Shot

  • Narrative Film Continuity

  • Scene Analysis

  • Conveying a POV

  • Art of Visual Storytelling

  • Directing Actors

  • Blocking Actors

  • Screenwriting


Experience:

  • Professional experience working in the film, television or digital media industries

  • Teaching experience at the college level.

  • Master's degree in Filmmaking is required.
