In this video you will gain knowledge of what it means to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. PSRS is proud to say that one of our own DSP’s was nominated and won the 2021 Direct Support Professional of the Year! Adam has great things to say about Supported Living that connect directly to PSRS – ‘you’re out there with the person and they’re living their life and they make their own direction. Then you come in for support whenever it is needed. Whether that’s something they don’t have the ability to do that you can help them with. Or, better yet, teach them to gain that skill.’ Another DSP states, ‘I love how fun it is’. A Direct Support Professional is there to provide support when it is needed, assisting individuals to gain the knowledge and skills they need to be more independent. You are gaining a professional connection, engaging in activities, providing guidance, and simply being there for the individuals that need you.
