PURPOSE
Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Digital Library Assistant administers all aspects of the Learning Commons resources and services in support of the academic programs, faculty teaching, and student learning with an emphasis on developing a digital library in support of these programs. The Digital Library Assistant provides collaborative leadership with the Learning Commons staff, faculty, and college administrators and staff. Must demonstrate experience in digital resources and coordinating efforts between the digital resources of campuses.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning
- Collaborate with the Director of Library Services to enhance Learning Common functions, services, and facilities with digital technologies. Collaborate with other stakeholders to develop and promote open educational resources (OERs) and other information technology applications.
- Plans and prepares for future growth and innovation; prepares and submits proposals for enhancement of digital services based on objective need analysis.
- Prepares reports, survey information, and other documents necessary to meet the learning common’s obligation to the Office of Academic Affairs and external organizations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Foster innovation by ensuring that the information resources, services, and library facilities align with the evolving research, teaching, and learning.
- Along with the Director of Library Service, responsible for the purchase of resources to the library collection (digital, models, and limited hard copy), working within the collection development guidelines.
- Shares in the optimal functioning of the integrated automation system including digital access to learning common online resources and equipment.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate processing, cataloguing, and circulation of learning common resources.
- Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of library science and operations; digital resources, requests appropriate personal professional development.
- .Make these available in digital formats for onboarding and training of students, faculty and staff
Services
- Ensures that instruction in information literacy is available to students, faculty, and staff in formats suitable to class, group, operational, or individual needs.
- Along with the Director of Library Services, ensures that reference services and digital resources are available for students and faculty as needed and circulation activities and other library functions are effectively performed during library hours and available online 24 hours per day seven days per week.
- Supports full-time faculty in fulfilling their faculty requirements of professional development and scholarly activity/research.
- Provides resource direction, does not do the research for the faculty
Outreach
- Promotes resources and services within the Life West community.
- Maintains appropriate communication with and membership in professional associations.
Supervision
Supervises learning commons staff work study students
- Ensures that all learning commons employees, are familiar with digital resources.
Perform additional duties as necessary or assigned.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Education, Training, and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Studies or related field from an accredited American Library Association (ALA) program. Can be just finished with your education.
- Experience in an academic library.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of best practices in a health sciences library.
- Master’s Degree in Education.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment.
- Requires ability to communicate and exchange information; collect, compile, and prepare work documents; and set up and maintain work files.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs., retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves; standing, walking, carrying, grasping, hearing, seeing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work performed in a general office environment.
