Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time faculty member to lead the Human Services department which includes psychology, sociology, chemical dependency counseling, health and wellness, early childhood, elementary and secondary education, and history. Duties include providing academic and professional leadership for the department, developing the curriculum, scheduling classes and assigning faculty, preparing and monitoring the departmental budgets, and assessing academic quality.

A Credit Faculty Department Head:
Has the principal responsibility for one or more credit programs and faculty-related functions, including the development of innovations in the curriculum, class scheduling, faculty teaching assignments, preparation and expenditure of departmental budgets, academic quality and institutional standards- Has the responsibility of a full-time faculty member with a teaching load of 30 credit hours per academic year or the equivalent for 10-month employees or 36 credit hours per fiscal year or the equivalent for 12-month employees, reduced appropriately by the level of administrative responsibility required by his or her department
- Provides academic and professional leadership for the maintenance of high standards of instruction
- Provides direction for the evaluation and utilization of new instructional techniques and methods
- Assumes responsibility for the timely review of departmental course descriptions in the syllabus and college catalog in cooperation with appropriate faculty members
- Assumes primary responsibility for the development of new courses and for the revision of current courses, coordinating such development with other department heads or faculty members when appropriate, and makes such recommendations to the dean who forwards to the vice president for academic affairs; serves on the curriculum committee
- Assumes responsibility for the development and approval of a syllabus for each course assigned within the department
- Assumes responsibility for the review, coordination and selection of texts and instructional materials for the department
- Assumes responsibility for the orientation of new faculty members regarding departmental matters
- Prepares class and faculty schedules for submission to the dean who forwards to the vice president for academic affairs
- Conducts departmental meetings when appropriate
- Assists with the development of proposals for public and private projects or program grants
- Assures departmental articulation with the community, other institutions of higher education, area schools and businesses
- Manages the annual and five-year comprehensive assessment processes per the Wor-Wic Community College assessment plan. Also works in collaboration with the divisional dean for the final content of the assessment report prior to the report's review by the vice president for academic affairs
- Coordinates and supervises and evaluates full- and part-time faculty members and administrative staff in the department
- Administers a testing program for proficiency examinations
- Recommends books and related materials for the Blackwell Library at Salisbury University when relevant to the discipline
- Coordinates the program advisory committee in his or her department
- Reviews and approves course and program level assessment, benchmarks and results
- Maintains departmental records
- Assists with the college's job placement process
- Consults, assists and supports the academic advising center
- Attends meetings, conferences and faculty development activities as required
- Attends graduation ceremonies
- Performs other duties as assigned by the dean
- Master’s degree in one of the fields the position supervises
- Three years of full-time college teaching experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
- A master’s degree in social science,
- A doctoral degree,
- Supervisory experience, and/or
- Proven administrative experience.

Full-time administrators, full-time faculty and part-time administrators can enroll in the State Retirement and Pension System (SRPS) of Maryland, or the Maryland Optional Retirement Program (MORP) subject to approval by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Seven percent of the employee's salary is deducted as a retirement contribution from each paycheck of all employees enrolled in the SRPS.

Tuition Waiver
Part-time administrators and support staff members are eligible for tuition waivers for themselves for credit or community and continuing education courses offered by the college, up to a maximum of one credit or one community and continuing education course each session, semester or term. The employee must attend on his or her own time.

Annual Leave
Full-time administrators earn annual leave at a rate of 20 days per year. Part-time administrators earn annual leave at a rate of 7.7 percent of the total hours worked per pay period.
Full-time faculty members who sign 12-month employment agreements earn annual leave at a rate of 20 days per year, but this leave cannot be taken when they are scheduled to teach classes. Full-time faculty members who sign 10-month employment agreements do not receive annual leave.
Full-time support staff members earn annual leave at a rate of 10 days per year during their first through fourth years of employment, 15 days per year during the fifth through ninth years and 20 days per year in the 10th and subsequent years. Part-time support staff members earn annual leave at a rate of 3.8 percent of the total hours worked per pay period during their first through fourth years of employment, 5.75 percent of total hours worked per pay period during the fifth through ninth years, and 7.7 percent of the total hours worked per pay period in 10th and subsequent years.
Sick Leave
Full-time administrators and support staff members earn sick leave at a rate of 15 days per year.
Faculty members who sign 10-month employment agreements earn sick leave at a rate of 12.5 days per year. Full-time faculty members who sign 12-month employment agreements earn sick leave at a rate of 15 days per year.
Part-time administrators and support staff members earn sick leave at a rate of 5.7 percent of the total hours worked per pay period.
Newly-hired employees who have been members of the Maryland State Retirement System at their last place of employment can transfer their accumulated sick leave to Wor-Wic if the time lapse between their previous employment and the college is less than four months and if a letter certifying the number of accumulated sick leave days is forwarded from the personnel office of the previous employer to the college within 60 days after the employee's starting date of employment. Sick leave transferred from other agencies has no cash value at the termination of employment at Wor-Wic.
Personal Leave
Part-time administrators and support staff members receive a proration of four personal days, prorated according to the employee's first day of employment, based on the employee's budgeted weekly hours.
