    The Dean of Culture & Climate will hold a critical role in improving school climate and culture and in collaborating with the school administrative team to prevent out-of-school suspensions.

    Role Overview
    Under the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Culture & Climate will support the vision for the Camden City School District by ensuring that all students have access to behavioral interventions and supports. The Dean of Culture & Climate will work closely with the school administrative team and the Divisions of Teaching and Learning to provide at-risk students with academic and social supports. The Dean of Culture & Climate will facilitate in-school suspension and restorative meetings for students returning to school from suspension or incarceration.
    Requirements and Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • At least 5 years of experience working with urban low-income students strongly preferred
    • At least 2 years of experience in a role leading adults preferred
    • Preferred: Bilingual – Spanish (read/write/speak)
    • Comfort and fluency with the Microsoft Office suite and entering data into online software systems
    • A valid driver’s license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
    • Required criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

    Role & Responsibilities
    Coordination of In-School Suspension
    • Develop, implement, and lead a restorative in-school suspension program for students in grades 9-12
    • Communicate with each suspended student’s teachers on a daily basis to ensure that all students are provided with missing work
    • Provide suspended students with academic support during in-school suspension to ensure that they remain academically on-track
    • Develop a scholar commitment contract with each student prior to his/her exit from in-school suspension
    • Responsible for decreasing of out-of-school suspension rate in alignment with CCSD goals
    Implementation of Restorative Justice Practices
    • Hold one-on-one conferences with students with repeated infractions in order to discuss his/her discipline record and next steps
    • Develop a behavior contract system to consistently support and monitor the progress of students who are frequently suspended
    • Implement the District’s re-entry protocol for students returning to school from out-of-school suspension or incarceration
    • Lead professional development for staff regarding de-escalation techniques and restorative practices leading to a 10% reduction in the number of high-level behavioral infractions during the school year
    Monitor Consistent Implementation of the District’s Code of Conduct
    • Lead school’s efforts to significantly reduce the number of incidents that lead to out-of-school suspension, in alignment with CCSD’s goals and priorities
    • Ensure that school staff members adhere to the District’s Code of Conduct
    • Log behavioral information into student information system
    • Develop school-wide positive behavior incentives in order to reduce the number of students who commit behavioral infractions
    • Consistently monitor discipline data for the school and collaborate with administrative team to address identified needs
    • Collaborate with CCSD’s Student Support Services team to analyze data and respond to trends
    The Dean of Culture & Climate may be required to serve on the school’s leadership team, and may also take on other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal, Office of School Support, Superintendent, or designee.
