The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) seeks to fill the Database Administrator position. This full-time position is based in Olympia, Washington. This position may be eligible for partial to near full-time telework. Telework is a combination of in-building and off-site days. Telework is a combination of in-building and off-site days. Position Overview
This position is part of Data and Application Services, under the Information Technology Services Division. ITS’ vision is to providing effective business, information, and technology services with modern, secure, and supportable solutions that deliver business and financial value to programs and districts. It’s also important to develop our knowledge, skills, and ability so that we can analyze, build, automate, and support modern technology solutions.
If you’re looking to make an impact on the data used by OSPI to report student information and make processes flow that feed kids, then this position made for you. As the database administrator you will design and execute custom SQL requests and use your application development skills to automate data processes.
Key Responsibilities
This position is responsible for database administration and data systems analysis. These activities are focused on ensuring systems are available and providing the data needed to power OSPI program and district operations.
You’ll also find yourself making data architectural decisions related to the extraction, transformation, and loading of data. Decisions are made with data team members and when required, management.
You can also look forward to identifying and acting on data security threats.
Required Qualifications:
A postsecondary degree in a technology related area or closely aligned field.
AND
Two (2) years of employment performing Database Administration duties in a professional capacity. Each additional year of experience may be substituted for one year in a degree program.
This position requires that you demonstrate six years of information technology experience that will qualify with a combination of education and experience. That combination of experience must include a minimum of two (2) years employment performing Database Administration duties in a professional capacity with experience in Microsoft SQL databases and development tools.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrate professional experience in one or all of the following areas: Data Warehouse Development, Application Development, or Project Management.

The annual compensation for the position is $80,064 to $105,060 per year depending on your experience, educational background and qualifications. Geographic differentials may be applied based on work location of successful candidate. Washington State offers a generous benefit package including health, dental and life insurance, retirement, and an optional deferred compensation program. This position serves at the pleasure of the Superintendent, and is Civil Service Exempt. This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
