The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Data Analytics Specialist for the Office of Epidemiology and Health Analytics. The Data Analytics Specialist is responsible for researching, identifying, and supporting the implementation of creative technological solutions to fulfill business data requirements. This position autonomously conducts results analysis, reconciliation, testing, and assists in the overall implementation and execution of project and performance criteria. In addition, this position is responsible for communicating to both technical peers and educating leadership of the path necessary to ensure ongoing data quality. The incumbent will maintain full knowledge of all phases of business-specific technology requirements and actively seek ways to leverage the limited technology available in order to eliminate redundancy, manual efforts, and provide other data quality mitigation. This position will use Git version control to track and collaborate on source code written as part of applicable projects, as well as be responsible for producing meta-data on reports to identify the data sources, populations, data shortcomings, and any other necessary/relevant information.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience with all fundamental data analytic activities including data governance, code maintenance and versioning, and meta-data management. Experience demonstrating the use of SQL and R for data extraction/analysis and Git for version control. Ability to design, develop, and maintain appropriate levels of documentation for the database environment, processes, and procedures. Demonstrated ability to interpret business needs and requirements and accurately communicate information, ideas and instructions both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
College or university graduate with advanced course work in biostatistics, epidemiology, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Experience managing code in Azure Dev Ops. Experience with health services research specifically with the utilization of standard measures for health data collection and reimbursement related quality measures, ideally within community behavioral health. Applied knowledge of GIS.
Special Requirements
Effective July 5, 2022, all Commonwealth of VA State Employees are required to work onsite. However, this position is currently eligible for one (1) telework day a week. Additional days may be considered. Both options are at the discretion of the Supervisor.
