As an Events Crewleader for Parks and Recreation, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of events held within the park system. This includes managing staff, preparing event sites, and ensuring that events run smoothly and safely. Strong leadership skills, organizational abilities, and experience with event planning are essential for success in this role.

  • Normal work schedule of 40 hours per week (Wednesday – Sunday), may be required to work extra hours. City of Baytown vehicle is provided for performance of duties. Required to respond to after-hours call out for emergencies

**The main function for this position is Event focused, sports league and other events set up: support and break down, and sport field pre-work. It also supports all other division that includes mowing and trimming, the maintenance and upkeep of parks medians, landscape, parks and event facilities, and TXDOT right-of-ways.

Under the direction of the Field Supervisor or Superintendent the Crewleader directly supervises a work crew and participates in Park functions including, mowing and trimming, the maintenance and upkeep of parks medians, landscape, parks and event facilities, and TXDOT right-of-ways, sports league and other event set up, support and break down, and sport field pre-work. Works closely with all divisions of the Parks and Recreation Department as well as with other municipal departments such as Public Works, Police and Fire. Interprets work orders and assigns the job to employees. Drives crew truck, makes needed repairs and adheres to all safety procedures. Normal work schedule may include weekends, extra hours and/or after-hours call out for emergencies as assigned.

Duties

  • Oversees and participates in ground maintenance which includes mowing, trimming, weeding flower beds, planting trees, litter removal, chemical spraying, pesticide usage, irrigation installation and repair, and drainage work and leveling.
  • Oversees and participates in facility maintenance of park structures, including landscape bed and park sign bed construction.
  • Oversees and participates in vehicle and equipment maintenance which includes minor repair and upkeep of trucks, tractors, lawnmowers and other motor vehicles, chain saws, trimmers, power hand tools, etc.
  • Oversees and participates in construction and maintenance including small buildings, event structures, equipment installation, fencing, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, carpentry, painting, etc. Oversees and participates in maintenance of greenhouse and tree farms.
  • Oversees and participates in event set up, support and break down, for all Park Department events which include sports fields, recreation and aquatics, Wetlands, and Nature Center, and special events including Christmas parade, July 4th celebration, Special Olympics etc.
  • Oversees and participates in weekend trash pick-up.
  • Performs personnel related duties including training, coaching and discipline.
  • Purchases building materials, minor tools and supplies as needed.
  • Performs planning and scheduling duties.
  • Drives crew truck to and from shop to worksite.
  • Performs graffiti removal.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED:


  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • One year of related experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with the endorsement of air brakes, cargo, and combination within six months of employment.
PREFERRED:
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Knowledge of use and upkeep of small equipment, irrigation systems, mowing equipment, event set up for recreational facilities and event planning. Ability to supervise and organize work crews. Knowledge of construction practices and procedures. Knowledge of pesticides, green house, plants, and MSDS. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
