Job Summary

The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is seeking a Coordinator for events and communication to support the Center for Research on Computation and Society (CRCS) (http://crcs.seas.harvard.edu/).

The CRCS Coordinator will work with the CRCS Program Manager and with faculty to coordinate and support administrative and financial operations for CRCS. CRCS brings together computer scientists and scholars from a broad range of fields to make advances in computational research that serve public interest. We are currently collaborating on interdisciplinary projects in areas such as conservation/sustainability, equity/fairness, and public health.

The Coordinator is the first person that researchers and visitors will go to for scheduling with faculty and purchases/reimbursements as well as travel arrangements. This position works closely with the designated Research Portfolio (Grant) Manager and CRCS Program Manager.

NOTE: This is a Term position for one year, with a possibility of renewal.


Position Description

Responsibilities include organizing research meetings, coordinating workshop and symposia logistics, sustaining an effective web and social media presence, creating advertising materials for seminars and workshops, contributing to reports about accomplishments, and serving as the point person for financial transactions and administrative tasks. The Coordinator will also be responsible for processing financial transactions, including reimbursements, corporate card payments, invoices, and other transactional activities for internal and external vendors. The Coordinator will meet regularly with grant managers to review grant expenditures and provide updates. Event support may include handling logistics with caterers and other vendors and processing invoices. The Coordinator will manage complex calendar scheduling for faculty and coordinate scheduling and logistics for meetings, postdoc appointments, and travel. Occasional evening event support may be required. Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

Two or more years of administrative experience. Education beyond high school may count towards years of experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Interest in issues involving computing and public health, wildlife conservation, and/or equity is a plus.
  • Previous experience or interest in event planning, coordination, and implementation is desired.
  • Experience with calendaring, travel planning, file management; understanding the interplay of Mac/PC and Google/Microsoft is preferred
  • Comfort with web-based collaboration and communication tools, including use of content-management systems.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Understanding of financial systems to process financial transactions, including reimbursements, invoices, and corporate card payments or willingness to learn.
