KEY REQUIREMENTS

SUMMARY
This is a professional and highly responsible case management position within Family Court Services. Work involves the use of unified family court practices and differentiated case management techniques to promote case progression and disposition in an effective and timely manner. The Court Program Specialist II is responsible for case analysis to understand and address the needs of each individual family, to facilitate cooperation and communication of the parties, and coordinate related family law cases, as well as domestic violence, and juvenile dependency cases. This position works closely with the judiciary, court staff, attorneys, the clerk of court, outside agencies and the general public. Work is performed under the supervision of the Family Division Director and the Program Coordinator.

The core functions of this position are: (1) Differentiated Case Management; (2) Case Screening and Coordination; (3) Case Research and Statistics; (4) Effective Communication and Customer Service; and (5) Other duties as assigned.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position; the omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

(1) Differentiated Case Management

Utilize differentiated case management techniques
Provide early court intervention and establish case goals and expectations
Effectively manage cases according to their nature and complexity
Conduct case management conferences to promote early case resolution and disposition
Ongoing monitoring of assigned cases to confirm party compliance and increase early case resolution
Complete comprehensive case reports

(2) Case Screening and Coordination
Screen cases to determine appropriate case track assignments according to the Unified Family Court model
Assess and identify cases involving high conflict or multiple case issues
Coordinate cases to minimize conflicting court orders
Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in addressing the individual needs of a family or case

(3) Case Research and Statistics
Query various databases to determine crossover cases
Compile statistical information and prepare monthly family division reports to determine court performance
Conduct case research and compose accurate case reports

(4) Effective Communication and Customer Service
Effectively communicate ideas and thoughts, both verbally and in written word, to pro se parties and attorneys
Clearly and effectively communicate procedures and goals to others
Ask appropriate questions in order to provide a common understanding of procedures and goals necessary in a case
Provide quality customer service by timely responding to inquiries
Maintain composure when dealing with potentially challenging or adversarial parties

(5) Other Duties As Assigned
Including but not limited to acting as back-up to the Intake Team as needed and when schedules permit. Cross training is provided for this function

Knowledge of:
Family law court programs and the dynamics of how they interface allowing for effective case management
Family law, domestic violence, and dependency statutes and rules of procedure

Understanding of basic legal terminology

Ability to:

Make differentiated case management decisions to determine the most appropriate and effective route for individual cases
Communicate clearly, concisely, and logically, both orally and in writing, with the public as well as outside agencies and programs

Provide effective, accurate, professional, polite, friendly, and prompt customer service to the public and other agency personnel, AOC employees, and the Judiciary
Maintain a pleasant demeanor in stressful situations
Effectively and respectfully work with highly emotional and potentially difficult people
Work under constant pressure in a fast-paced, high volume office environment
Efficiently operate a computer and utilize Microsoft Office Suite applications and various other software programs and databases on a daily basis
Operate office equipment including multiple line telephones, copier, fax, and shredder
Maintain consistent and regular attendance, which is required
Work the required hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
Type 35 correct words per minute (preferred)

Supplemental Information

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public or judicial administration, criminal justice, social work, or a related social science
Two years of experience specifically related to family law
Experience working with or within the court system as well as case management experience is preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
State of Florida Notary Public certification is required (within 30 days of hire).
