The Counselor provides counseling to students, and consultation to faculty, staff, and the community, through individual, couples, family, group & crisis counseling/interventions for the benefit of the campus community. This position will assess individuals at risk to self-harm, harm to others, diminished capacity, and risk to the campus community. The Senior Counselor collaborates with counseling center staff, provides consultation to faculty/staff from outside departments, conducts outreach and mental health education to the campus community. This position will provide consultation services to families in the Admissions office programs. The Senior Counselor may provide mediation services for students when deemed necessary. This position must maintain appropriate licensures, certifications, and continuing education to maintain a knowledge base of best practices in the field. This position may provide supervision to student interns, as designated by the Center director. If the Senior Counselor provides supervision to post-master's degree clinicians, the individual must be in compliance with the supervision licensure laws designated by the state of Tennessee.
Counseling Services
Providing ongoing support services, such as counseling or psychoeducational interventions, for students to facilitate readiness and success on the college campus, thereby improving retention rates for all students, particularly those at risk for dropping out; engaging students with decisions that can impact personal and academic success during matriculation and beyond.
Administrative Services
Any liaison/coordination duties as assigned; making recommendations regarding expenditures for Counseling Center resources, training, travel expenses, media and electronic resources, assessments, and information management systems; providing individual supervision and complete evaluations for practicum/internship students as assigned by the Director; participating in search committees and staff hiring as needed; participating in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings with clinical staff.
Outreach/Education
Marketing/Educating mental health services to the campus community, prospective students and families, and alumni; working with Student Development and Student Retention services to market and promote mental wellness and health services to prospective and current students and parents/caregivers.
Crisis Assessment/Support
Suicidal/ Homicidal and Diminished Capacity assessment and referral for students/university staff; crisis consultation and crisis support as needed.

This position will be filled as 100% full-time through July 31, 2023. Effective August 1, 2023, the position will transition to a Flex-Year Appointment with a work schedule of greater than 9 months, but less than 12 months annually.
Preferred Qualifications: Some college counseling experience (work as a professional counselor in a student intern role considered); some experience working with individuals with learning disabilities, autism spectrum d/o, and/or severe mental illness; working toward TN state Licenser (LPC-MHSP or LCSW).
