Le Mars HS/EHS Cook
- 38.5 hours a week Monday-Friday, approximately 41 weeks per year.
- High School Diploma or GED required, and cooking experience preferred.
- Duties include cooking, eating lunch with children, working with the co-cook and ensuring proper sanitation.
- Valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation required.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Able to bend, stoop, push, pull and lift up to forty pounds frequently and with some repetition and lift up to thirty pounds.
Qualifications:
- Cooking knowledge and experience required.
- Adequate math and reading skills.
- Excellent oral, written, communication, and organizational skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be knowledgeable of Head Start Service Plan, Procedures, Performance Standards and Iowa Licensing Regulations.
- Able to relate to low resource preschool children, families and staff in a positive manner.
- Establish and maintain nutritionally balanced meals in a safe and sanitary environment ensuring that the dietary needs of the children are met in compliance with State of Iowa Licensing, HS/EHS and CACFP rules and regulations.
- Supervise volunteers in the kitchen, delegating duties and instructing them in appropriate procedures.
- Cook and serve healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack each day.
- Clean kitchen before and after meals, including dishes.
- Follow and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning lists.
- Clean and set up tables in the classroom to prepare for meals.
- Responsible for grocery shopping, ordering food and supplies in a timely manner and with consideration of cost.
- Complete required reports, production records and paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
- Eat breakfast and lunch with the children in a family style setting.
- Collaborate with Center Team to conduct classroom food experiences and to integrate food and nutrition into classroom activities.
- Collaborate with Center Team to provide information to families about nutrition, food preparation and using the eating experience to teach other skills to children.
- Collaborate with Center Team to ensure that each Head Start/Early Head Start child and family will receive the full benefits of the Head Start program
- Work without direct supervision.
- Follow HS/EHS policies and procedures.
- Responsible for contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
- Be willing and able to substitute as needed in the classroom.
- Attend required trainings and meetings
- Able to complete job duties as described with reasonable accommodations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Conditions of Employment:
- Submit to the Department of Human Services Criminal History and a Request for Child Abuse Information Records Check upon employment and every two (2) years thereafter.
- Submit to FBI National Fingerprint Criminal History Check prior to hire and every four (4) years thereafter.
- Submit to a Motor Vehicle Records check prior to employment and every year thereafter.
- Complete a DHS Physical Exam prior to employment.
- Complete a Tuberculosis Screening or Assessment prior to employment.
- Complete mandatory reporter training within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
- Adhere to HS/EHS Standards of Conduct.
- Sign and maintain required confidentiality statement.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation.
- Attend required in-services, trainings, orientations and meetings.
- Must be able to complete job duties as described with reasonable accommodations.
