Job Summary: Under the direction of the Human Resources Director, the Compensation Specialist is responsible for processing payroll, maintenance of employee records and related reporting and payments. This position will also assist in the administration of innovative compensation programs which may include short- and long-term incentives, benchmarking and survey analysis.
Responsibilities & Expectations
1. Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for the company.
2. Enter and maintain employee data into payroll system.
3. Conduct, participate in and analyze wage and benefits surveys and other available information sources to support, plan, design, and evaluate the competitiveness and effectiveness of the organization’s compensation plans.
4. Assists with preparation for HR activities, including but not limited to: Annual salary review and bonus program, annual stock plan, Quarterly Incentives, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
5. Advises HR partners regarding job leveling, salary administration and bonus targets within the framework of a total reward offering.
6. Coordinates compensation audits and reports through multiple systems. May provide technical support for HRIS and be responsible for testing system functionality.
7. Serve as a backup to our Benefits Manager in administering and communicating the company's benefits programs including health and welfare programs (medical, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance, etc.) and retirement plans.
8. Ensures compliance with company policy, benefits plan documents, rules and regulations, provider/broker agreements, and summary plan documents and certificates.
9. Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned compensation processes.
10. Review W-2 forms and 1095C forms for accuracy at year end.
11. Responds to unemployment claims and employment verifications.
12. Assists in departmental projects/initiatives as needed.
13. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Required Skills & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in business related field preferred
- 1-3 years prior compensation/payroll experience required
- Knowledge of federal & state regulations pertaining to compensation and benefits
- Self-starter/high initiative to proactively identify opportunities and take the initiative to find solutions.
- Multitasking: able to adapt to changing priorities and work on multiple projects, meeting deadlines.
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information in a professional manner.
- Strong professional and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the Human Resources team.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills (able to compose and edit correspondence and communications).
- Very detail oriented, with a high level of accuracy and the ability to detect inconsistencies in data.
- Excellent customer skills with the ability to interact with employees at all levels within the organization.
- Advanced knowledge of HRIS, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint applications is preferred.

Physical Requirements
This position requires standing, walking, bending, and squatting on a regular basis. May require the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or reach with hands and arms. Requires the ability to carry, lift, move or push up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Must be able to talk and listen to others.
Work Environment
This position regularly works in an office setting. Most of the job duties require the employee to be working with computers and electronic media on a regular basis.
