THE POSITION

Washington County Community Corrections is now hiring individuals to join our Community Correction Specialist team! Both bilingual and non-bilingual positions are available.

The Opportunity
The Corrections Center is a 24-hour, 7-days per week minimum security facility. This 215-bed facility provides justice involved individuals with a structured living environment, while focusing on accountability, employment, and skill-building. As a Community Corrections Specialist I, you will be responsible for maintaining center security, coordinating activities for residents, providing them with assistance and information, and ensuring facility regulations and procedures are followed. Shift Differential
Employees working 7:00am – 3:30pm (Day Shift) receive base pay; employees working 3:00pm – 11:30pm (Swing Shift) receive one dollar ($1.00) per hour shift differential; employees working 11:00pm – 7:30am (Night Shift) receive one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) shift differential per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • One (1) year of college coursework. Education must include some coursework in correctional studies, the social and behavioral sciences, or a related field to be qualifying, OR
  • One (1) year of experience in a correctional or residential treatment facility for juvenile or adult offenders.
ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT AND PROGRAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Obtain appropriate State of Oregon DPSST certification within 12 months.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer psychological assessment prior to appointment.
  • Work varied shifts, including weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Oregon State Class C driver's license and acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
  • Obtain and maintain first aid/AED/CPR certification.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment prior to appointment.

BILINGUAL:
Specific job vacancies and/or assignments may post a requirement for bilingual fluency skills.
  • Some positions may require oral and written fluency in another language.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Selection Process:

  • Minimum Qualifications Review: An evaluation of training and experience of submitted application packets will be performed by Human Resources every Monday.
  • Interviews: If you meet minimum qualifications, you will be referred to the hiring manager for an interview. Interviews will be held every Friday.
  • Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend an offer of appointment conditional on successful completion of a background check/driving record check, psychological evaluation, and physical capacity test.
  • Online Examination: Candidates that do not have a bachelor's degree will be invited to an online examination. This is required by DPSST. The exam will cover the following:
    • Name and number matching
    • Interpreting diagrams and forms
    • Numerical skills
    • Public relations
    • Reading comprehension
  • Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) Online Examination: Candidates that express interest in the bilingual vacancy will be invited to participate in an online Spanish language aptitude examination. Candidates will also be required to pass an oral Spanish language test after placement in the position. Bilingual skills are not a requirement of the position, and therefor are not a condition of employment. Please note: additional compensation is provided to staff members occupying positions designated as bilingual.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment.
