Summary/Primary Purpose: Provides professional writing support—primarily via print publications and online stories—to Western Division operations; plus, serves in a “reporter” function, covering internal news stories as assigned; plus, helps manage online information regarding the Division and its business units.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works at the direction of the Director of Integrated Communications to generate informative, compelling print/online stories about Salvation Army Western Division corps, operations, programs, services, personnel, clients, awards, etc.
- Manages production of 1) a large-scale, Omaha-metro-focused, donor-facing quarterly publication, as well as 2) printed programs for fundraising events.
- Serves as Western Division liaison to metro-area monthlies, working on a wide range of writing-related projects, including print advertisements and special sections.
- Helps manage the Google Business Listings of Western Division business units, corps, etc.
- Serves as a backup still photographer (to the Multi-Media Journalist on staff), chronicling local/divisional events, Emergency Disaster Services responses, etc.
- Serves as a backup website facilitator (to the Digital Marketing and Graphic Design Coordinator), posting stories to Salvation Army Western Division websites as directed by the Director of Integrated Communications.
- Writes donor-focused letters for use by Development Department colleagues on an as-needed basis and in coordination with the Director of Integrated Communications.
- Works closely with Development Department colleagues on fundraising initiatives for various events.
- Assists with maintaining the digital photo archive.
- This position requires the discipline to be a self-starter, the initiative to help manage important projects, and the ability to maintain focus from beginning to end of events/projects.
- Participation in after-hours meetings and events is required and will include some nights and weekends.
- Driving is an essential function of the position; at times, the person in this position will be assigned to travel to different parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota in order to cover stories.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, creative writing, or multi-media journalism required.
