Job Description:
The Clinical Engineer II is assigned to perform preventive maintenance, repair and configuration of all types of devices and equipment including complex multi-faceted, multiple interface specialized system, and must be able to perform these duties with little or no supervision. ScopePerforms safety testing, performance testing, and preventive maintenance tomeet NFPA, OSHA, and The Joint Commission compliance on medical equipment in assigned departments at the scheduled time intervals. Documents all repairs completed while performing maintenance inspections as well as the inspections on all SCL Health electronic medical equipment. Performs electronic repairs, according to manufacturers specifications, in order to offer providers and other medical staff equipment that is 100% operational. Replaces defective components according to accepted practice to ensure minimal damage to components and printed circuit boards. Performs operational checkout and safety testing of all repaired equipment. Completes documentation which includes all necessary parts, including part numbers, quantity, price, time, procedures, and equipment used to accomplish each service request. Follows up on equipment recalls and interacts with medical staff to reduce operator errors and reduce equipment malfunctions. Competent to service all basic general medical equipment. .. Receives mentoring and training from Level 3 technicians. Responds immediately to emergency repairs, including after hours and weekends. Responsible for personal and professional development, including vendor training. Communicates the nature of repair to the department supervisor as well as an estimate of the possible down-time. Informs personnel as to equipment status after completion of repairs. Upon completion of formal manufacture or third party service training shares knowledge and documentation with the Clinical Engineering staff in order to expand and strengthen service coverage. Works closely with the customers department to ensure all equipment meets state and federal guidelines and repairs equipment that does not pass annual testing within the time requirements defined by the department. Assists and mentors Level 1 and Level 2 Technicians with repairs when needed. Manages projects which may consist of coordinating and planning system installations and following up on equipment recalls (All SCL jobs) Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards. (If applicable) May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications
Required
Completion of a two year approved Biomedical or Electronics Program or equivalent factory training and experience
Documented completion of factory training on a variety of basic and complex pieces of imaging equipment
Minimum of two years of experience with the repair and maintenance of medical equipment Experienced with and understands all aspects of safety and special precautions relating to the servicing of moderately complex biomedical equipment systems
