    POSITION: Clerk - Media Center TEMP
    9 month - Class 3 - 8 hours per day
    HOURS: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

    LOCATION: Park High School

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This position provides support for the building media specialist in operating the building media center. Position provides media services to the students and school staff.

    PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
    General Office Functions
    • Assist students, staff, and parents, including: greet people entering the Media Center; assists with directions, information, provides positive and friendly customer service in person and over the telephone. Remains cheerful, calm and professional in all situations.
    • Provide clerical support to the building Media Specialist, which may include: correspondence/flyer distribution, data entry, copying, filing and/or correspondence and spreadsheets using Word and Excel.
    • Maintain confidentiality and data privacy for employees and students.
    • Treat students and staff with fairness and equity. Understands and supports students and staff with varying cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation, religious, and/or language backgrounds.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Department Specific Job Functions
    • Supervise students and maintain discipline according to the library discipline plan set up by the media specialist.
    • Supervise students working on follow-up activities planned by the media specialist.
    • Assist with the development of literature appreciation and listening skills by reading books and stories orally and using audio-visual materials. (Planning for these activities will be done by the media specialist)
    • Assist with computer instruction for students by providing these according to the schedule set by the media specialist.
    • Assist students and teachers as needed with the computer technology in the building.
    • Assist students with book selection and special projects.
    • Assist media specialist in providing information, bibliographies, and materials to teachers for special units of instruction.
    • Shelve all returned books and periodicals.
    • Prepare displays in the media center.
    • Assist with maintaining the electronic card catalog.
    • Maintain the computerized circulation system by entering and deleting student records, new and discarded book records, and other duties recommended by the media specialist.
    • Assist with textbook management.
    • Perform book check-out duties.
    • Perform overdue book duties at least every two weeks. This includes collecting money for lost and damaged books.
    • Arrange refunds for returned books for which money has already been collected.
    • Prepare monthly circulation and computer lab statistics.
    • Assist media specialist with annual inventory duties.
    • Assist with ordering and processing of library books, periodicals, and other materials.
    • Repair library books according to direction from the media specialist.
    • Cooperate with media specialist in planning and directing activities for volunteers.
    • Learn new library technology with help from the media specialist through district media service, or by attending workshops.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
    Required:
    • High school diploma or equivalent for all new hires after July 1, 2006.
    • Skills assessment in accordance with established OPEIU testing process.
    • Actively participates in district-sponsored training when offered.
    • Excellent customer service skills in person and on the phone.
    • Proven organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • General clerical skills that include working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook
    • Prompt, regular and reliable attendance
    • Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
    • Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
    • No written reprimand or higher within the past 12 months.
    • Not on a Performance Improvement Plan (e.g. Job Target and/or Plan of Assistance)
    • Must take part in a standardized interview process conducted by HR and the Department/Building Administration. A score of 70% is required to pass the interview. If the bidder does not meet the minimum threshold to pass the interview, the next qualified bidder will be invited to interview
    Desired:

    • Basic accounting skills.

    TESTING:

    Candidates must pass the qualifying test prior to bidding. Successful candidates must have a qualifying score in each of the following testing areas to be considered for the position: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Basic Office Skills and Following Written Instructions.
