The Chief Development and Marketing Officer is responsible for developing and implementing effective fundraising and external communication strategies in support of A Precious Child’s mission and vision. The Chief Development and Marketing Officer plays a critical role in establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to meet or exceed A Precious Child’s budget, including but not limited to individual donors, major gifts, capital campaign gifts, annual gifts, corporate, foundation and event support. The Chief Development and Marketing Officer is lead fundraiser who helps ensure the sustainability, growth and health of our organization.

The Chief Development and Marketing Officer will develop and execute a systematic strategic plan to diversify, strengthen and increase the funding base and develop new sources of funding, for both general operating costs and capital campaign. In addition, the Chief Development and Marketing Officer will be responsible for creating and implementing a strategic Marketing plan that coincides with the Development Plan that will work to spread awareness of A Precious Child’s programming while raising funds to meet and exceed the annual budget.

Hours: Full-Time, Exempt, Must be willing and able to work weekends and evenings as needed

Direct reports: Development Director, Grants Director, Community Engagement Director, Marketing Campaign Director, Creative Manager, Marketing Project Manager and Videographer

Areas of Responsibility:

Development

  • Be an inspirational, passionate, energetic leader with the skill, vision and drive to take our organization to the next level in major donor cultivation, stewardship, individual giving programs, corporate investment, foundation support, earned revenue streams.
  • Create and execute strategy and fundraising for a $7mm annual budget.
  • Create and execute annual comprehensive and strategic plan for Development, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Media and Communications with targeted goals, objectives, tactics, quantifiable outcomes and timelines.
  • Develop and execute a strong plan that ensures the continuous growth of the organization through various methods, including donors from all categories (individuals, foundations, corporate philanthropies, etc.), donor retention and stewardship.
  • Raise gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, community groups, churches, government and special events, increasing revenue and expanding the donor pool.
  • Expand the organization’s individual major gifts program and building a more robust pipeline of donors, using the existing pool of loyal donors as well as identifying new sources in partnership with Chief Philanthropy Officer.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of successful signature events.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of Development Campaigns including, but not limited to; Colorado Gives Day, End of Year Giving, etc.
  • Oversee the creation and success of Development Crowdfunding Campaigns such as Match 4 Mission and Sponsor a Child.
  • Oversee the success of initiatives such as; EBay, Dollars for Doers, Employee deductions, Employer Matching, Leave A Footprint, etc.
  • Provide support for initiatives such as transforming Volunteers and In-Kind Donors into monetary donors.
  • Oversee the identification, research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors.
  • Solicit new donors (monetary, in-kind and volunteer), by providing compelling appeals for support, providing extraordinary service and by exceeding expectations.
  • Effectively manage staff members and development volunteers to generate positive results and strengthen the organization's overall fundraising capacity.
  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
  • Oversee research of funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position A Precious Child ahead of major funding changes or trends.
  • Oversee strategy for cultivation events and work with the Development Team to implement.
  • Provide support to the Grants Department.
  • Present and network in the community for morning, daytime and evening meetings and events (i.e. chambers, rotary’s, corporations, churches, organizations).
  • Lead tours and communicate effectively the work A Precious Child does for children, families and our agency partners in the community to a diverse group of people.
  • Develop and execute strategies to identify, research, cultivate and solicit qualified prospects for planned giving.
  • Prepare a detailed fiscal year plan and a fully coordinated solicitation calendar for annual giving that includes goal setting and the incorporation of all appropriate constituent segmentation strategies to increase both the percentage and level of giving participation. Included in this plan will be all renewal, reactivation and acquisition campaigns.
  • Prepare and distribute reports tracking results against the full set of goals incorporated in the annual giving dashboard to all relevant parties. Reports on productivity will also be required as part of the departmental reporting to the organization’s Board of Directors.
  • Design and manage annual strategies for fundraising and donor communication (direct mail, email, phone, texts, volunteer solicitations and other channels).
  • Ensure Development processes and procedures are created and/or updated to ensure best practices.

Marketing

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of our Strategic Marketing Plan and strategies including public relations, media relations, on-line giving, digital communications, key messaging, storytelling and brand experience.
  • Build relationships with media and stakeholders through creative PR strategies.
  • Build relationships and support the handling of Influencers and Celebrity Ambassadors.
  • Oversee the creation and strategy around targeted emails.
  • Advance the existing social media plan to ensure a strong social media presence and calendar to maintain positive donor communication with goals, review and report of monthly analytics.
  • Identify needed graphics for collateral such as the Annual report and sponsorship packets.
  • Ensure the Marketing Department is running smoothly and completing marketing pieces on schedule including all videos.
  • Ensure Marketing processes and procedures are created and/or updated to ensure best practices.
  • Assist in supporting Third party and VIP events.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Effectively manage staff members and development volunteers to generate positive results and strengthen the organization's overall fundraising capacity.
  • Manage and nurture the Development and Marketing staff, including hiring, onboarding and training and evaluating performance. Provide fair and consistent feedback through individual meetings and annual performance reviews. Ensure that all staff are accountable and follow organizational process and procedures.
  • Contribute to continued growth of organization through team development and participation in senior leadership team discussions.
  • Participate in Board and Committee meetings and serve as staff resource for the different Boards.
  • As part of the Executive Team, duties also include budget and process and procedure oversight and general organizational management.
  • Work in conjunction with Finance and other staff on ensuring accurate reports of revenue and expense items related to fund development.
  • Create atmosphere for outstanding teamwork through clear expectations and frequent communication.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports to foster the Development and Marketing Team’s collaborative environment.
  • Ensure project management tools such as Monday are being effectively utilized by entire team.
  • Ensure Raiser’s Edge donor management tool is being effectively utilized by entire team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Passion for A Precious Child’s mission and vision.
  • Exemplifies A Precious Child core values and Guiding Principles, and can articulate A Precious Child’s mission to donors and prospects in a way that both educates and compels them to give.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise $6mm or more in funds and properly manage a budget.
  • Solid fundraiser who understands cultivation and has the ability to do a strong ask and can close a gift.
  • Bachelor degree in philanthropy, communications, resource development, business, marketing, nonprofit management or a closely related field is required.
  • At least five years' direct experience in fundraising, marketing or related field; demonstrated ability to increase overall fundraising goals, lead marketing efforts and meet deadlines.
  • At least three years' experience supervising, inspiring and motivating staff.
  • Demonstrated management skills and ability to work with colleagues who have varied styles and skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and engage volunteers and interns.
  • Supervisory proficiency in grant writing, development, events and database management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge (RE). Certification in RE is preferred.
  • Self-Motivated person with enthusiasm, positivity, tenacity and resilience with the ability to achieve goals and perform a task with little supervision or direction.
  • Strategic planning experience with ability to develop a vision for the future and create a culture in which the long-range goals are achieved.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations including leadership, volunteers, donors and clients.
  • Possesses excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively with donors, corporate leaders, volunteers and staff; displays mature judgment, superior diplomatic skills; highly developed listening, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with high net-worth donors, grant makers, businesses, elected officials and other key players.
  • Excellent skills in relationship building, gift solicitation, event planning and public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate in an effective and timely manner using appropriate communication tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Ability to set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress toward goals, create and implement action plans and evaluate the process and results.
  • Outstanding knowledge of fundraising strategies, trends and best practices.
  • Leadership proficiency in project management, resource management and team building.
  • Persuasive writing, storytelling and verbal skills.
  • A history of leading successful initiatives with measurable results.
  • A strong track record of positioning an organization to stand out in a competitive fundraising environment.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and summarize information including numerical and financial data.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Must be organized and able to manage priorities and deadlines effectively as well as competing demands and handle multiple duties simultaneously.

Compensation: $100,000-$125,000/year depending on experience.
