Check-in Representative - TED Countdown Summit 2023 - Detroit, MI
This is a short-term, temporary contract role for in-person, onsite support at the TED Countdown Summit 2023 conference in Detroit, MI. You may be asked to work some or all of the dates between July 5 and July 15, 2023. The successful applicant will be responsible for any travel, accommodation and meal costs.
As a check-in representative, you’ll be the first point of contact for attendees, vendors and staff members arriving at the conference. You’ll provide a warm and authentic check-in experience for each attendee that’s unique to TED's service style, making sure they’ve completed all the required steps for entry. You’ll use electronic devices provided by TED, including laptops, tablets and smart phones to manage check-in using internal TED apps and programs. You’ll assemble and organize all conference credentials, including name badges and lanyards, making sure each one meets TED’s quality standards. You’ll also assist attendees with questions and directions, maintaining a helpful and anticipatory service presence and escalating any requests or issues to the designated TED contact.
You self-identify as tech-savvy, and you have experience using a variety of devices and programs and troubleshooting if the need arises. You have a keen eye for detail and high standards for consistency and quality in your work. You’re a brand ambassador and a people person with prior customer service experience and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Your service style is proactive and helpful. You’re comfortable assisting high-profile guests with discretion and tact and helping them move through the check-in process as efficiently as you can.
This position involves standing for long periods and participating in some physical work and lifting up to 30lbs.
Responsibilities
- Delivery of excellent guest services to conference attendees by building rapport and acting with an attendee-comes-first attitude when notified of and responding to their needs
- Record attendee inquiries; close the loop on suggestions, requests and complaints; identify potential issues and take a proactive approach to troubleshooting using tools and resources provided by TED
- Manage, track and secure lost and found items and inquiries
- Provide information to attendees regarding conference programming and activities Provide local city information and directions (attractions, restaurants, stores, services, etc.), offering recommendations as requested
- Collaborate with other front of house teams to create a seamless service experience
- Help attendees navigate TED's conference mobile app, TEDConnect
- Previous front-of-house customer or guest service experience is required
- Tech-savvy, with experience using an iPad
- Experience with both Android and iOS phones
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Professional, calm and kind
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Effective, resourceful problem solver
- Ability to adapt and work well during periods of high volume
- Able to stand for the entire duration of a shift
- Fluent in English
