Job description
- Perform carpentry/maintenance repairs, renovations and/or additions to the campus as assigned by the Lead Carpenter or the Work Order Management System.
- Exercise sound judgment when using equipment and chemicals.
Use approved safety standards and precautions in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, state and federal laws and Wheaton College guidelines.
Respond to all requests and complaints in a professional, courteous and timely manner, resulting in exceptional customer service.
Operate college vehicles in a safe and reasonable manner.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Assist other departments or shops when requested to do so, as needs arise.
Integrate into the Grounds Shop in support of individual projects requiring carpentry assistance/extra labor.
Required to work overtime in emergency situations or when special events or projects are scheduled.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision to meet required deadlines.
- Ability to use carpentry tools safely and as designed.
Ability to use a computer based work order management system / other computer based operating systems (Microsoft Word, etc.).
Ability to work from ladders and staging.
Ability to communicate well, with strong writing and interpersonal skills.
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must be physically capable to lift 50-100 pounds.
Ability to lift and move heavy furniture, packages and equipment.
Knowledge of safety and OSHA requirements.
Ability to work independently, resolve problems, and function as part of a team.
Must have high school diploma or certificate from an accredited trade school with minimum 2 years field experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a valid MA drivers license, as well as, a proven safe driving record.
When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.
The starting hourly rate for this position is 19.00/hour.
