Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) External Communication and Engagement group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a CAES Communication Lead.

The Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) Communications Lead advises on standard methodologies for sharing the organization’s goals and successes, helping its experts build and tailor their messages to effectively reach target audiences.

Our team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Idaho Falls CAES facility with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

  • This person will contribute to leadership on strategy and solutions for achieving INL's outreach goals. Such work may involve maintaining networks and relationships outside of INL
  • The successful candidate will be able to anticipate and advise about communication needs.
  • Will work with leadership to define target audiences, select effective communication channels, and refine messages appropriately.
  • Oversees creation of fact sheets, marketing material, news releases, website content, newsletters, social media, videos, talking points, FAQs.
  • The Communications Lead also will coordinate assistance for presentations and event promotion; collaborate with INL’s Communications & Outreach department, especially on coordinating required DOE-ID reviews; and facilitate news media interactions.
  • As an employee based in one organization and working for another, the liaison will maintain regular contact with both the home org and work org to prioritize projects and enlist specialized staff as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a relevant Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field with an emphasis in communications; or a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a field related to technical communications; and a minimum of 5 years related experience
  • OR an Advanced degree and 2-3 years’ experience. Strong preference for previous experience with science or engineering public communication.
  • Should have experience in public involvement in technical or scientific issues, as well as writing and producing materials for the general public.
  • Requires ability to understand technical principles and communicate technical topics in simple terms.
  • Should be able to negotiate with researchers to achieve mutually agreeable communications materials.
  • Must demonstrate excellent writing skills, familiarity with AP Style, and excellent oral, digital, social media and visual communications skills.
  • Able to manage several projects at once, work independently under general direction, and demonstrate good judgement on diverse problems.
  • Must understand news judgment and be able to prioritize work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must have good relationship management and organizational skills to effectively manage works with colleagues.

Job Information

Salary: Grade 190 ($70,680 - $116,616)

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
