Biogeochemical Modeler
Location: Remote (Prefer US) or San Francisco Bay Area, CA
Salary: $80k - $160k (Competitive Equity)

Job Summary:
Our company is seeking a Biogeochemical Modeler to lead our biogeochemical modeling efforts to support our core product: a soil carbon measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform. The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in agriculture science, environmental sciences, soil science, conservation, or a related field showcasing experience in soil biogeochemical modeling. The candidate must have worked in academia for a bit, e.g., PostDoc, and then industry for an AgTech company/startup, have expertise working with models like APSIM/DSSAT/RothC, and know how to calibrate and validate models.
Responsibilities:
- Lead our biogeochemical modeling efforts to support our core product: a soil carbon measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform.
- Work to identify the correct model inputs and assemble datasets to parametrize soil biogeochemical models.
- Develop, calibrate, and validate soil biogeochemical models like APSIM and other soil biogeochemical models (e.g., DNDC, DayCent, RothC, SALUS).
- Use your deep knowledge of soil science and agronomy to connect biogeochemical model abstractions to underlying science to improve models in the long run.
- Plan and implement soil sampling campaigns to collect ground truth data.
- Communicate scientific work to various audiences, including government leaders and local communities, and collaborate across disciplines.
Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent experience in agriculture science, environmental sciences, soil science, conservation, or a related field showcasing experience in soil biogeochemical modeling.
- Experience working with APSIM and other soil biogeochemical models (e.g., DNDC, DayCent, RothC, SALUS) and publishing research in this regard in peer-reviewed journals.
- Deep knowledge of soil science and agronomy to be able to connect biogeochemical model abstractions to underlying science to improve models in the long run.
- Experience planning and implementing soil sampling campaigns to collect ground truth data.
- Strong communicator with an ability to present scientific work to various audiences, including government leaders and local communities, and collaborate across disciplines.
We offer a competitive salary, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. This is a full-time, W2 role and not C2C or for contractors. Although we're an in-person first team, we're open to remote for this particular role. If the candidate is in the SF/bay area, that would be great, but not a must. We're willing to sponsor a visa for the right candidate.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
