Position Summary:

The Billing Specialist position will encompass critical thinking skills, confidentiality, data analysis and in-depth evaluation. This position is responsible for maintaining billing EMR, entering and reviewing charges based on medical insurance policies, and completing rejections and holds. The specialist must demonstrate proficiency with billing systems to ensure functionality is utilized for the efficient processing of claims.

Essential Functions:

• Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies
• Ensure the patient’s medical information is accurate and up to date
• Collect and review referrals and pre-authorizations
• Call/fax hospitals to get patient demographics and notes
• Monitor and process VCC (virtual credit card) payer payments
• Handle billing information from physicians in the charge capture system
• Manage hold and rejected claims
• Effectively communicate with Insurance companies, doctors, hospitals, and management.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
• Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma required
• Associate degree preferred
• Minimum of 1- 2 years’ experience as a billing specialist within a healthcare industry
• Experience in (Athena), charge capture system, and/or EMR preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Solid understanding of Billing, Coding and EMR
• Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
• Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities
• Must demonstrate and promote a positive team-oriented environment.
• Look for ways to improve and promote quality and monitors own work to ensure quality is met.
• Excellent written, verbal communication, and analytical skill
• Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft
• Office Programs, communication and collaboration tools, and various operating systems
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
