Job description
The Webster House is a separate handicapped accessible equipped home on our New Britain campus serving both boys and girls ages 12 until 21 who struggle with behavioral health issues and co-occurring complex physical health needs. Each youth receives individualized clinical and medical treatment from a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team including a Licensed Clinical Coordinator, Primary Therapist, Psychiatrist, Pediatrician, 24-hour Registered Nursing staff, a Registered Dietitian, and well trained milieu staff.
Treatment services include:
Weekly individual therapy, clinical group therapy, family therapy, medical group facilitated by registered nurses, independent living skills groups run by LIST trained staff, daily therapeutic recreational activities on campus and in the community, weekly consultation with the agency’s registered dietician, coordination of primary and specialty care, daily medical assessment and individualized self-management skill building by our registered nursing staff.
Webster House provides a caring and supportive environment where both behavioral and medical health can be treated as part of an integrated system of care. Working collaboratively with the young person’s family or other permanency resource, our goal is the successful transition of our youth home with their families, to another permanency resource or to their next step towards independence.
Common Physical/Medical Conditions Treated: Type I and II Diabetes, Pre-diabetes, Obesity, Renal Failure, Cerebral Palsy, Seizure Disorders, Autism, Prader Willi Syndrome and other genetic conditions.
Function:
Under the direction of the Webster House Supervisor and Program Coordinator, participates in the implementation of plans for the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of children or adolescents in the group home to meet the philosophical and treatment objectives of the agency, the group home and the individual treatment plans; with the Webster House Supervisor, supervises all child development staff as directed while modeling effective performance.
Typical Duties:
Performs managerial duties, including scheduling, budget monitoring, and other supervisory tasks, on-call, and hiring.
Assists in the, supervision, training and development of the staff of the program. Assists in performance evaluations and recommends appropriate recognition. Addresses performance issues as necessary and on a timely basis.
Participates in the development of individual treatment plans for clients and facilitates implementation of the plans. Contributes to individualized plan of care in which needs are identified and achievable goals are set.
Maintains familiarity with the programming of all youth in the group home, responds therapeutically to all group home clients in all situations including both routine and crisis situations.
Demonstrates understanding of boundaries when caring for residents and their families. Interact with residents, families and visitors in a warm, caring and courteous manner.
Provides crisis intervention and supervision.
Reviews resident’s chart for specific treatments, medical needs, medication orders, diets, etc., routinely to stay adequately informed of resident’s status and implementation of care.
Interacts with residents and their families in a compassionate, nonjudgmental and humanistic manner that preserves and protects resident and family autonomy, dignity and rights.
Collaborates, cooperates and communicates with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
Provides a variety of services to clients, including transportation, assistance and instruction in hygiene, assistance in the development of daily living skills, and maintenance of other personal needs.
Participates in the planning of recreational activities both on and off campus, ensuring the following of program off campus guidelines for medical and physical safety.
Prepares and maintains records, files and reports as required.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
Education/Experience/Other Requirements:
High School Diploma, Bachelors Degree preferred. 2-4 years experience in a group home setting preferred. Maintain certification in TCI, CPR and First Aid. Must have a valid driver’s license.
