We are seeking a professional, responsible, and experienced candidate for the position of Assistant Superintendent in the Department of Public Works. The incumbent will ensure efficient and safe day-to-day operations, inspect projects, supervise work crews, and oversee special projects such as Leaf Pick-up, Parks’ Restroom Maintenance, Landscaping and Herbicide treatments, Cemetery Burial layouts, restoration and showings, Composting, Spring Clean-up, Snow Removal, Line Striping, and Strip Paving.The incumbent will be responsible for interviewing, recommending applicants for hire, and training full-time and seasonal employees. This position will appraise performance, provide coaching to their team members, address concerns, and resolve problems in accordance with the City's policies, administrative orders, applicable laws, and the labor contract.
This position requires the incumbent to be on-call on a rotational basis with other management team members. Overtime is required during certain months of the year for the City Leaf Clean-up program and the Winter Street Maintenance with night/weekend shift requirements. An adjusted work schedule of 3:30 A.M. -12:00 P.M. or 12:00 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. for winter street maintenance with the potential of a 12 A.M. start time for the first shift or a 12 A.M. end time for the second shift as weather dictates may also occur.
Must have Associates Degree in Business Administration or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred). Three to five years of experience in street operations and/or parks and recreation operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid MI Class "B" CDL and DOT medical card, or ability to obtain. Class “A” CDL and DOT medical card preferred.
Salary commensurate with experience ($57,000 to $68,000 range) with an excellent benefits package.
