This full-time position reports to the Director of Programs and is responsible for the provision, management, and direction of the Center’s programmatic support services. York County and Bereavement Services Coordinators report to this person. The Assistant Director ensures excellent care and service for families, high quality support and training for volunteers, and works with the Director of Programs to identify and implement new opportunities for service and a cohesive outreach strategy.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision for bereavement coordinators; train and support staff on family calls; assist with volunteer management, clinical supervision related to family support services, volunteer support and effective group facilitation skills.

Serve as primary point of contact for families and adult participants seeking bereavement support services. Ensure smooth and effective process for families seeking to access support services from first contact with the Center, to initial family meetings, to placement in a group.

Provide quality support to families and adult participants in our programs including working with collateral providers, maintaining resource and referral list, following up with families, and participating in program evaluation efforts.

Manage all aspects of one night of service and with occasional additional nights as needed.

Work with volunteer coordinator and program staff to ensure that volunteers are adequately trained and supported in their roles working with families and adult participants including training for program facilitation, initial family meetings, in-service training topics, intern program, and the development of resources to support their work with families.

Maintain all records in a timely manner, complete and report on data as requested. Respond and record relevant participant information into data platform; ensure program coordinators maintain accurate records.

Perform other duties as assigned. Contribute to strategic planning and achieving agency goals, pursue appropriate professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

· 5 or more years of experience working with children and families in an agency setting including group facilitation skills, sound clinical judgement, and knowledge of grief and loss.

· Successful completion of the Center training (upon hire) and a belief in the power of peer support model to provide meaningful, effective, and transformative support.

· Experience working with grieving children, teens, and adults.

· Demonstrated supervisory skills, effectiveness managing volunteers, sound judgement and decision making.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Ability to develop positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders including participants, volunteers, colleagues, board members, donors, and community members.

· Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to provide superior service.

· Preferred Maine LCSW Maine license.

The Center for Grieving Children is an oasis of loving support for children and families confronting loss, change, and grief when someone close to them dies or is seriously ill. Based in Portland, with an additional service site in Sanford, the Center's peer-support programs and community outreach touch the lives of more than 4,000 people annually. Trained volunteers and the generous support of the local community keep our services free for families. We depend on funding from individuals, businesses, foundations, and United Way.

Our Workplace

The Center has a community-oriented workplace staffed by 15-17 full- and part-time staff members and assisted by multiple volunteers and interns in different capacities. It is governed by a 25-member board of directors. To be successful, staff needs to be flexible under pressure, and respond creatively and professionally to changing priorities in a frequently fast-paced environment that depends on the leadership, service, and support of a wide variety of people.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
