Duties: The School of Education at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Literacy Education. It is our goal to hire four positions as part of a group of exceptional scholar-practitioners with a record of commitment to the academic success of historically marginalized groups of students and engagement in scholarly activity and service at the intersection of education, anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. This position would begin in August 2023.
In addition to the Assistant Professor of Literacy Education, the Department of Teaching and learning will also be seeking applicants for the following tenure track positions. Candidates must apply to each individual position.

Assistant Professor of Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism Studies
- Consult with Early Childhood & Childhood Education program on literacy-based curricular offerings within that program.
- Teach and advise students in the graduate Literacy and/or Early Childhood & Childhood Education (ECCE) initial certification program.
- Contribute to scholarship in literacy education through research, publications, and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings.
- Provide service to the department, university, and local community by serving on School of Education and College committees, continuing and establishing partnerships with local school districts, and regularly contributing to curriculum and professional development activities with and for teacher candidates.
- One of the two positions will take on the responsibility of coordinating the graduate Literacy program. The graduate program coordinator receives release time for this work.
- An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy Education or a closely related field by August 2023. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered.
- Understand the International Literacy Association (ILA) Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals (2017) and the New York State requirements for certification in literacy education.
- Deep understanding of the science of reading and literacy, with the content knowledge to teach graduate-level courses in the Literacy program. Courses can be viewed at these links:

- Ability to teach literacy methods courses focusing on grades K-2 or Grades 3-6 in the initial certification ECCE program.
- Ability to teach classes in in-person, hybrid, synchronous online, and asynchronous online delivery formats.
- Hold or be eligible to hold state licensure in literacy education in any state.
Preferred:
At least three years of prior experience teaching as a literacy specialist or literacy coach in public and/or private schools in grades PK-12.
Experience supervising teachers or teacher candidates in literacy assessment, intervention plan writing and implementation, and progress-monitoring data collection.
Experience supervising graduate candidates within a university-based literacy clinic setting.
Experience teaching synchronous and asynchronous online classes.
