As a fast-paced real estate/development office with a large, diverse portfolio of assets, we are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our accounting team. - General Ledger: Daily review of invoices, monitoring of aging reports, producing monthly financial statements, overseeing month end closing, analyzing, and auditing entries and adjusting entries.
- Budgeting & Finance: Coordinating and assisting with the annual budget process, assisting with cash flow projects, preparing for property valuations and with financial reporting for Board of Directors/Stockholder meetings.
- Banking & Mortgage: Overseeing bank balance reporting (daily), auditing tenant deposits, assisting with bi-monthly payroll processing and subsequent transfers. Preparing loan covenant reporting - Rent Rolls, Property P&Ls, DSCR and compliance certificates (quarterly). Reviewing monthly bank reconciliations (prepared by other accounting staff) and note receivable and payable schedule maintenance/ monthly interest accruals.
- Taxes: Preparing and filing local and state B&O taxes, assisting with year CPA-schedules and reporting, depreciation schedules, overseeing annual AP 1099s, preparing 1098 and 1099s for LLC and trusts and payroll-related taxes.
- Insurance & Compliance: Assisting with insurance accruals annually and renewal valuations/data gathering. Researching accounting issues for compliance. Assisting with identifying and implementation of process/systems improvements/enhancements and with the recommendation, preparation or updating of policies and procedures to maintain consistency and internal controls.
- Payroll: Submitting Payroll data to payroll/software provider and benefit providers semi-monthly and managing payroll data (enter new employee, manage deductions and employee information) and related processes.
- Property Management/Customer Service: Assisting the team with various items such as tenant application review/approvals, KPIs, and CAM Recs annually. As an accounting team member, where appropriate, provide support to the property management function and customers.
- General Accounting: Perform analysis of GL accounts and prepare reports as needed. Look for opportunities to streamline and improve processes.
- Property management/development experience.
- Experience with multiple entities/under different legal umbrellas and intercompany transactions.
- Strong Excel skills (including Sumifs, lookups, and pivot tables) and experience.
- Experience with Spreadsheet Server is a plus.
- MRI experience is helpful, but not required.
- Experience with a SQL database.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Self-starter, ability to prioritize, deadline driven, and results oriented.
- Willingness to do whatever comes accounting’s way and desire to continually learn.
- Ability to wear multiple hats, organize/prioritize tasks, and direct projects.
- Ability to build strong working relationships and work efficiently across functions to resolve issues.
- Desire for a long tenure, commitment to helping grow a small business.
- Must possess the ability to follow verbal and written directions such as procedures.
- Must pass drug test, drivers record check, credit check, reference check, and criminal record check.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 to 10 years’ experience in accounting/finance.
- CPA (preferred, but not required).
- Small business experience.
- Job costing is a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local taxes.
- Experience with financial reporting requirements.
- Experience reading and abstracting legal documents.
- Knowledge of real estate applicable GAAP pronouncements, helpful but not required.
