Anticipated Student Support Services Coordinator (Elementary)
Job description
Responsible for assisting the Director of Special Education with the provision of Special Education Services in the elementary settings. This includes working directly with School Psychologists, Special Ed teachers, Building Principals, and other related service providers to develop Individualized Education Plans, FBA/BIP's, and ensure program service delivery occurs within the districts vision and in compliance with laws and regulations. Reports directly to the Director of Special Education.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Provides direct support & supervision, in collaboration with building
principals, to Special Education teachers and related service
providers
o Promotes involvement and understanding of Special Education
programming for the purpose of meeting the ongoing needs of
students and families
o Works collaboratively with the Office of Student Support Services to
hire, evaluate and coordinate schedules for Special Education
teachers, paraprofessionals, and related services staff
o Monitors district-wide and school site-based Spec. Education and
support program projects
o Ensures compliance with rules and regulations of the NYS Dept. of
Education and Office of Student Support Services
o Coordinates testing for students, especially those who require
special accommodations
o Chair CSE meetings & assist with IEP development
o Instructional leadership, conducts walk throughs and support special
education teachers in their development
o Connect teachers and staff to relevant district support and services
o Arrange and lead professional development, in conjunction with the
building principal, Office of Student Support Services, and Office of
Teaching & Learning
o Assist with the development of summer ESY programso Ensure Work Based Learning hours are documented appropriately
o Review records for incoming students and work with Special
Education on Placement of transfers
o Maintain Case manager assignment list
o Work with Special Education Office on any new referrals to special
education or on any outside provider referrals needed
o Attend School Based Support Team Meetings
o Assist Special Education Office on annual special education
projections
o Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Job Qualifications
Master’s degree in special education or other related services area
Current certification in School District Leadership (SDL)
Minimum of five years of classroom teaching or direct related service experience within K – 12 setting
Experience in urban education preferred
Previous leadership experience preferred
