Job Summary:

Apply procedures and policies to provide for the daily needs of all animals. This includes maintaining kennels so they are clean and sanitary, ensure appropriate feeding, identify sick or injured animals. Work cohesively with supervisor, co-workers, other departments and volunteers. Assist the public in a professional manner. Work cohesively with all departments of the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate information and friendly service to the public.
• Handle all animals in the most humane manner possible.
• Ensure animals are fed appropriate food in the correct quantity.
• Clean and disinfect kennels, cages and stalls following established protocol.
• Maintain equipment used in procedures / protocols.
• Wash dishes and complete laundry duties while following current procedure and proper use of equipment.
• Maintain food storage, chemical storage, laundry room and food prep area in a clean, uncluttered and sanitary manner.
• Identify ill or injured animals and report such to evaluation center staff.
• Assist with euthanasia of animals, perform body care in accordance with euthanasia protocol
• Assist with transfer of animals to other shelters or for special events.
• Restock necessary items in kennel areas and notify supervisor of deficiencies or supply needs.
• Update or correct kennel records in computer when appropriate or necessary.
• Perform inventory of animals, utilizing computer or manual methods as appropriate. Report unresolved discrepancies to supervisor or manager.
• Move and / or release animals as appropriate, update kennel cards and computer records accordingly.
• Check kennel cards in assigned area daily, correct discrepancies, reprint unreadable cards.
• Participate in activities to improve well being of animals within the shelter.
• Always remain calm and courteous to all customers and co-workers.
• Perform adoption viewing of animals in accordance with current procedure.
• Escort customers through shelter to search for lost pets in accordance with current procedure.
• Communicate with customers, volunteers and co-workers in a professional, courteous and calm manner at all times.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Necessary:

• Professional animal-handling experience is highly desired.
