Community Tampa Bay INC is an educationally focused nonprofit that envisions a community free from all forms of discrimination. CTB hosts an annual summer youth leadership program called ANYTOWN. Youth ages 14-18 are eligible to participate in this leadership program that facilitates cross-cultural interaction and dialogue. Youth learn how to advocate for themselves and each other in the pursuit of building inclusive communities. The program is free to ensure youth from all socio-economic backgrounds can attend. A significant population of attendees qualify for free and reduced lunch. Community Tampa Bay INC creates opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge, and advocacy around topics of diversity including race, gender, ability, sex, sexual orientation, faith, ethnicity, age, nationality and class; and promote civic leadership and social justice through education, advocacy, cross-cultural interactions, and dialogue as means to affect a positive vision for change. The mission of the ANYTOWN® program is to empower diverse groups of young people to create more inclusive and just schools and communities where all individuals are treated with respect and understanding. The goal of the project is to graduate 120 high school age youth from ANYTOWN® who have knowledge about the impact, causes, and consequences of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination; who can assess their own identity as it relates to their community; who can engage in the foundations of transformative dialogue; who can experience meaningful, prejudice-reducing cross-cultural interactions; who can advocate for themselves and individuals experiencing systemic discrimination; and who can lead with a vision of inclusion. The Summer Associates will be a part of a highly energetic, life-changing diversity and leadership education program that includes professional development through volunteer training.
Member Duties : Facilitate dialogue groups, diversity content workshops, and dorm and community interactions; model and supervise inclusive, safe intergroup contact and learning; engage participants in identity development activities.
