Kenyon College seeks a candidate with experience or interest in working with underrepresented groups to join the Advancement team for a 2-year fellowship. The position will report to the Associate Vice President of Alumni and Parent Engagement and Annual Giving in the first year, and the Associate Vice President for Development in the second year and will include regular interaction with the division Vice President. The position will participate in a comprehensive introduction and immersion in the advancement profession, working with the following departments within the division:
- Alumni and Parent Engagement Gift Processing and Records
- Annual Giving Donor Relations and Stewardship
- Major and Planned Gifts Advancement Communications
- Parent and Family Giving Prospect Research
Essential Functions
- Support volunteer management efforts, including committees like Alumni Council, Kenyon Fund Executive Committee, class agents, regional volunteers, career mentors, 50th reunion, and Kenyon Parents Council.
- Assist with bicentennial planning and celebrations.
- Assist with research to identify prospective donors and volunteers.
- Directly solicit a select pool of prospective donors, either alone or in partnership with a development officer.
- Assist advancement communications team with targeted messaging for special fundraising initiatives within annual giving, including giving days and calendar/fiscal year end drives.
- Assist with the management of College and Advancement social media accounts.
- Work with donor relations to share the impact of gifts, particularly special initiative fundraising efforts. Help coordinate the fall stewardship dinner.
- Participate in prospect strategy discussions to learn about major gifts and moves management.
- Assist with special projects identified by the division’s leadership team.
- Participate in the Advancement Communications and Training Team in the second year.
- Work with KEEP and other community partners as appropriate.
- Utilize the various Advancement software and systems, and participate in the transition from Advance to Slate.
- Connect with students on a regular basis, elevating their expression/enactment of philanthropy, sharing the message of generosity, and meeting them where they are.
Nonessential Functions
- Handle general inquiries by telephone and e-mail from alumni, parents, students, and other institutions.
- Support and steward our alumni and parent communities, which include donors.
- Assist with planning virtual events for alumni and parents.
- Serve on search committees as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervisory responsibilities may include student workers, temporary student workers and student interns.
Working Conditions
- Work is generally performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment as well as the ability to sit for long periods of time.
- The ability to lift items weighing 30 pounds or less and move tables and chairs when necessary for events.
- Some travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Four-year college degree, preferably from a liberal arts college.
- Evidence of leadership roles, either in a professional or volunteer capacity.
- Record of achievement.
- Strong computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office programs and familiarity with Google office suite, data management, and online content management, as well as a willingness to learn new systems.
- Ability to do long- and short-range planning.
- Must be accurate and timely.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
- The ability to obtain College driver certification is desirable.
