South Dakota State University (SDSU) Office of Admissions is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Admissions Counselor. This position will assist in meeting the University enrollment goals through implementation of the undergraduate admissions recruitment programs. The Admissions Counselor will meet with and advise prospective students about the academic offerings, services, activities, and other opportunities of the University. This position will manage inquiries for information through phone, department email account, and web chat.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Professionally represent SDSU at college fairs, high school visits, and other off-campus programs.
  • Meet with prospective students and families that visit the SDSU campus.
  • Successfully manage assigned territories to meet enrollment goals of the university.
  • Establish an effective communication program for students in assigned territories.
  • Determine admission status of freshman students.
  • Establish personal written communications projects for prospective students.
  • Respond to incoming inquiries for information through phone, department email account, and web chat.
  • Assist with orientation/early registration as needed.
  • Complete assigned project planning guides.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in professional service as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Earned Bachelor’s degree by first date of employment;
  • Strong oral, written, interpersonal and electronic communication skills;
  • Candidates must possess effective organizational skills;
  • Quality public speaking ability;
  • Commitment to detail and follow-up;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Exceptional telephone skills;
  • Must possess ability to represent SDSU in a professional, positive manner;
  • Must be willing to travel extensively and work flexible hours;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • An independent, self-starter who is committed to meeting the goals of the SDSU admissions office;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, team environment;
  • Knowledge of SDSU, South Dakota or the Midwest;
  • Recent and relevant experiences at SDSU and/or successful admissions experiences at relatable institutions.
